DeSantis is stirring the pot again, though not in the way his few supporters might hope. This pattern of making headlines for the wrong reasons has been a stumbling block for the Florida governor in his 2024 Republican primary campaign. His recent MSNBC interview, marked by a series of flip-flops reminiscent of a hyper-active gymnast, has only added to the skepticism. Particularly troubling for many observers was DeSantis’ reluctance to denounce the increasingly politicized actions of the US government.

Independent journalist and January 6th investigator, Julie Kelly, known for her staunch advocacy for the J6 political prisoners, expressed profound disappointment with the interview. She went so far as to suggest that whoever prepped DeSantis for this appearance did such a cruddy job that they should be fired.
Ouch.
I watched the entire interview. Whoever arranged this and prepped him should be fired.
Completely backtracks on nearly everything including Ukraine. And this takes groveling to a new level while again missing a chance to go after the “weaponized” government he promised to end. https://t.co/taSNE90Whj

Here’s this part of the segment:
Back in August Gov. Desantis vowed to "slit the throats of federal bureaucrats."
When asked if he had any regret about using that kind of rhetoric— The 2024 Republican presidential candidate defended his words as "colorful," saying "people knew it was figure of speech." pic.twitter.com/PxsEH27va9

Julie couldn’t believe what she was hearing in the other parts of the interview, either.
Just wow – instead of confronting Geist over his description of charges against Trump (convicted of overturning 2020 election?) and overall weaponization of DOJ to target Trump and his supporters, DeSantis grovels for approval from MSNBC crew. What a disappointment he is. https://t.co/rlIKWEk7sf

Watch:
.@WillieGeist: If Donald Trump's convicted, "do you actually still believe [he] should be president?"@GovRonDeSantis: "No, that will not happen…it would be fatal in a general election. I don't think the party should should nominate in that situation." pic.twitter.com/trWsm4l7oo

Then there was this snippet:
Surely this message will win over Trump voters!
Maybe he’s angling for an MSNBC gig next year. Or new member of the Lincoln Project.https://t.co/e4mXdelK7r

Here’s what DeSantis said:
In 2015-2016, Donald Trump “was clicking as a candidate. He had energy. He was out there riffing. He was controversial, but in a way that was edgy. And I think people said, you know what? This political system needs to be shaken up.”
“This is a different Donald Trump in 2023. I don’t think he’s got the same energy. I don’t think he’s got the same pizazz. 2015 and ‘16 was about America First. I think this campaign is more about Trump First. It’s more about his issues.”
Yikes. Watch:

As the GOP primary gears up and we move into a more intense phase, there’s a growing sentiment that we’re starting to see the real DeSantis. It seems unfair to lay all the blame at the feet of his advisors. Ron had ample opportunities to go off-script during the MSNBC interview and chose not to. It’s becoming increasingly apparent that DeSantis might not be the candidate many believed him to be. The leap from state to national politics is a big one, and not every excellent local leader is cut out for the national spotlight, as we’re clearly witnessing right now.
