Viewers who tuned into “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” on Thursday night were greeted by an eerie spectacle. The once wholesome piece of annual Americana took on a distinctly dystopian flavor under the lockdown regime of Mayor Bill de Blasio.

The famous Times Square Ball still dropped as it always has but the streets, usually filled with tourists and celebrants, were almost completely empty. The people were replaced by inflatable tubemen emblazoned with the name of the celebration’s sponsor, Planet Fitness, a fact made even more depressing given that many of the nation’s gyms are still unable to operate because of the COVID-19 lockdown.

As has happened every year since 2005, the ball drop was preceded by a performance of John Lennon’s creepy globalist anthem “Imagine”. People at home, many forbidden by their Democratic mayors from going to bars or parties, were instructed to make themselves feel better by imagining a world without countries, religion, or heaven.

After the ball dropped, all those who hadn’t turned off their televisions in disgust got to see an even more demoralizing sight, Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife dancing on a platform above the empty streets. The scene immediately brought to mind the image of Nero fiddling while Rome burned.

And Rome is burning. The end of the year meant the NYPD was finally able to tally up all the violent crimes that happened in New York City in 2020 and see how just how many more there were than in 2019.

On top of a pandemic that took more than 25,000 lives, New York City endured a soul-crushing crime surge in 2020 — a 97% jump in shootings and a 45% surge in murders.
The NYPD released the sobering preliminary year-end stats Friday, eager to turn the page on a tally that recorded more shootings from mid-May through mid-September than in all of 2019.
When the ball fell in near-empty Times Square, the NYPD counted 462 murders across the city in 2020 — 143 more than in 2019.
Shootings were also up — cops counted 1,531 shooting incidents across the five boroughs, 754 more than in 2019, officials said. In those incidents, bullets hit 1,868 people. [NY Daily News]

Vandals tagged St. Patrick’s Cathedral with anti-police graffiti early on New Year’s Day, according to the NYPD.

Police say they found the acronym “ACAB” tagged on the cathedral after responding to a protest on Fifth Avenue around 1 a.m. [NBC New York]

A few days later:

A crazed man left 10 people injured and a wild trail of destruction behind him during a Manhattan rampage Saturday night that involved subway assaults, street beat-downs and two carjackings, according to cops and police sources.

Suspect Bryan Thompson, 43, of Atlantic City, NJ, was wielding what his victims said was everything from a bat to tree branch to wooden clubs — or all of the above at various times — as he raged from Tribeca to Chelsea for less than an hour, police and sources said.

“He was a one-man crime spree,” a police source said. [New York Post]

Some might think de Blasio’s dancing was inappropriate given this grim reality but they’d be wrong. The mayor has every reason to celebrate because this is the reality he and his ideological allies have been trying to construct for decades. Our elites want us locked in our homes consuming globalist propaganda while they look smugly down from on high. They will use any tactic to achieve this goal. If fearmongering about the pandemic won’t keep us in our homes, they’ll unleash a crime wave by de-legitimatizing and dismantling our criminal justice system.

Let us not despair though. Nero did not last long after the Great Fire of Rome. His hubris turned even his allies against him, he faced rebellion from the provinces, and eventually he cowardly ordered a servant to take his life so that he could avoid justice. With his death, an old dynasty died out and a new one rose to power. Let us hope that 2021 marks the beginning of the end for our current decadent ruling class.
