Every election cycle, rich Dem politicians suddenly discover a magical new power. They become instantly “relatable” to whatever audience is sitting in front of them.

Sure, the suit stays expensive and the resume stays elite. But the tone totally shifts, and sometimes they add an “urban accent” to really jazz things up.

Their message changes, and like magic, the performance begins.

And this is exactly the point where the left’s bigotry of low expectations creeps in. This bigotry gets dressed up as empathy and is packaged as connecting and “jiving” together as one. But when you strip away the soft, delicate little words, what you’re left with is a political class that thinks minority voters (especially blacks) need to be talked down to in order to be won over.

And the reason this keeps happening is because so far, it works. Let’s be honest, black voters aren’t hard to convince, are they? Dem politicians can ignore them for 4 years, and when they need their vote, all they have to do is put on a fake accent and use some hot sauce, and bam, they’re back in the saddle.

This “bigotry of low expectations” actually works for Dems. And as an added bonus, it also flatters another powerful  audience- white liberals- this political performance also reinforces who’s in control and holds the power – white liberals. It also allows those same liberal elites to cosplay as the understanding heroes of the story.

Which brings us to Gavin Newsom. Did you see the video from yesterday? Well, in case you didn’t, here it is:

So, in short, Newsom told the black community that he’s just like them because his SAT scores were lousy and he can’t read.

But believe it or not, what already looked bad yesterday somehow just got a hell of a lot worse.
Now, a shocking second clip has surfaced, and it’s wild.

In this newer video, Newsom is speaking to white people, and suddenly, the same man who just admitted he has crappy SAT scores and can’t read is now explaining that he read a 260 page book in about an hour and a half.

Amazing achievement for a man who’s illiterate.

What makes all of this even more damaging is that the warning signs were already there. As we noted in our piece yesterday, the real issue was never just the cringe moment itself. It was the deeper political habit sitting underneath it… the left loves to “gently” virtue signal to its rich, white base, reminding them just how lowly their black voters are.

Revolver:

Every election cycle, super-rich, out-of-touch white Dem politicians try to convince us that they’ve got some mega magical connection with minority voters. They claim to understand minority struggles, speak their language, and know exactly what these communities need. How do they know this? Well, nobody’s known until now. Apparently, wealthy white liberals understand black voters because they also have low SAT scores and can’t read.

[…]

But the real twist in this story isn’t just what Newsom said. It’s who he was actually talking to in that room… and if you think it was black people, you’d be very wrong. Because the backlash against Gavin has mostly been centered around whether the comments were condescending toward black voters. Yes. They were. But there’s more to this story, because as Chris Rufo points out, the clapping and cheering audience was actually white.

Clearly, there’s a major disconnect between the intended audience for that message and the actual crowd in attendance.

Chris’s observation changes the frame big time. If the room was heavily white, then the obvious follow-up question becomes: who exactly was this performance meant to resonate with? Illiterate, low IQ blacks or smart, well-read white folks? This is really where the Dems’ “compassionate condescension” dynamic comes to life. The concern now is about the political culture in left-wing elite circles that assumes minority communities need to be spoken about and advocated for in a very particular, patronizing way.

You can read the entire piece here:

Here’s what everybody’s missing about Newsom’s statement to ‘low IQ’ black voters…

Well, one thing’s for certain: our earlier analysis now looks even more on the nose.

Because when you put these two moments together, a pattern starts to come into focus. In one room, speaking to black voters, he leans into self-deprecation about his low test scores and not being able to read, making sure the white audience hears him loud and clear and applauds on cue. In the next setting, Newsom is sitting with his own crowd, wealthy white elites, and he casually highlights how quickly he read a 260-page book.

Clearly, this is Gavin adjusting his performance depending on who’s in the room and what story they need to hear.

The “bigotry of low expectations” isn’t just about the minorities the left loves talking down to. It’s also a performance aimed at white liberal audiences who want to see that script play out and be a part of the show.

The left has to keep playing this out, because if minority voters are seen as fully empowered, capable, and independent decision-makers, a huge piece of the Dems’ current political foundation starts to crumble.
