Ten years ago, at the end of Obama’s presidency, CNN spent an entire day embedded with ICE. They were hunkered down from sunup to sundown. Cameras followed agents while they carried out raids, arrested illegals, and enforced immigration law exactly as it’s written. In fact, some arrests even happened at job sites. Others happened during routine operations. And through it all, CNN didn’t melt down or have a panic attack. They never once warned viewers about “Gestapos” or human rights abuses. What they did was treat the story like “access journalism,” like they’d been given the “golden ticket” to peek behind-the-scenes and report on something important and necessary in the United States of America.
And that’s because at this time, back in 2016, deportations and ICE weren’t controversial. Enforcing immigration law was just part of normal, everyday governing. It was understood as common sense and totally normal.
Then Donald Trump won the presidency, and overnight, the entire script flipped on its head.
The same exact agency, carrying out the same exact duties under the same exact legal framework, suddenly became evil. ICE went from being followed around by a love-sick CNN, to being compared to the secret police. Agents who had been portrayed as professionals doing a hard job were now described as demonic monsters. The work and the laws didn’t change… the politics did.
And folks, that shift tells you everything you need to know about the media’s underhanded and still very powerful role in this country.
When immigration enforcement served the interests of the party in power, it was framed as necessary and responsible. But here’s the kicker: the US mainstream media didn’t move alongside the public through some organic ideological shift that turned against ICE and immigration enforcement. They followed marching orders from the people wielding power and setting a new agenda. That’s called propaganda. Some would even call it a color revolution.
Because the American people aren’t stupid. They can see what happens when millions of unvetted people are allowed to flood a country. Schools get overwhelmed. Hospitals strain. Housing disappears. Wages drop. Public safety erodes. Communities destabilize. No serious person believes this improves life for ordinary Americans who are already stretched thin.
And that’s where the political problem starts. Once Democrats lost the trust of the people and their voters began fleeing like rats off a sinking ship, they didn’t suddenly change course or fix what they broke. They looked for replacements, shifting their focus on new voters, new loyalties, and new leverage. That’s when illegal immigration stopped being about borders or the law and became about numbers and votes.

And to sell this new plan, which is the complete opposite of the Obama years when ICE was simply doing its job, everything gets rebranded and wrapped in twisted morality. People are reprogrammed and told they’re the heroes of the story, meant to save the vulnerable. And just like that, immigration enforcement becomes cruelty, while breaking the law to enter the country or help the “helpless” is recast as a moral virtue.
Once people buy into that hooey, facts stop mattering. The only thing that matters is staying loyal to the cause.
That’s why this CNN clip from 2016 matters so much. Keep all of this in mind as you watch it, and the propaganda and reprogramming will hit you like a freight train.

May, 2016. CNN does a segment entitled “A Day with ICE in a so-called Sanctuary City.”
CNN literally rode around with ICE from the break of dawn until nighttime, watching while ICE conducted raids and arrested illegals. ICE arrested some right at their jobs.
CNN was not criticizing ICE. They were celebrating ICE. It was “exclusive access” during the Obama years and CNN considered it a privilege to get to watch ICE work.
ICE even made a “mistake” arrest. CNN had no problem with it.
Six months later Trump won the election and ICE was then labeled the gestapo.
Six months later, Trump was elected, and that same footage would have presented some moral emergency.
The clip doesn’t just expose a media flip; it shows how narratives are built, changed (on a dime), and revised, based on who holds power and what outcome is needed next. Once you see it, you can never go back. And it explains why so many Americans no longer trust what they’re being told, especially when the same voices insist they’ve always been on the “right side” of history.
