The Brown University shooting is raising more questions than answers, and the longer those questions sit unanswered, the more antsy the public is getting.

As you likely know, a young conservative Christian named Ella Cook was murdered by a gunman.

Her church paid tribute to her.

It’s been days since the terror shooting, and authorities still haven’t publicly identified the shooter, even though he was captured on surveillance cameras outside the building. His face was covered, but the bigger issue is that there appears to be no footage of him inside the building at all.

With so many gaps and delays, it’s understandable that some people believe there may be a cover-up at play.

Daily Mail:

Authorities are under mounting pressure to track down the ‘organized’ tubby at-large suspect who killed two people and injured nine more in a horror shooting at Brown University.

The bungled response from law enforcement has been widely criticized in the days following the incident on Saturday, including the release of a ‘person of interest’ who was found not to be the killer.

Cops had also previously announced that they had a suspect ‘in custody’ in the aftermath of the killings before walking back the news, and shared conflicting reports of a secondary shooting that were ‘unfounded.’

Days later, surveillance footage was shared by authorities on Monday in hopes of triggering a new lead, showing the suspect walking slowly through the Providence, Rhode Island, community in the moments after the attack.

Officials seemingly admitted they had nothing as they released the footage, with the university appealing for help from witnesses to offer ‘even an incidental detail’ that could point to the gunman’s identity.

Are authorities hiding the killer’s identity, or are they just completely dropping the ball?

Watch:

Now, the internet is buzzing with speculation about a pro-Palestinian activist who some say matches the shooter’s stature and whose profile has reportedly been removed from Brown’s website. None of this has been confirmed, and the shooter remains unidentified, but this is the type of stuff that naturally fills the void when there’s secrecy, confusion, and a lack of transparency.

And all of this mystery and non-communication has lit an even bigger fuse. Now, people are asking, was this a random act of violence, or was it targeted?

We covered this growing concern.

Revolver:

Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama and Vice President of the Brown College Republicans, was murdered in a shooting that has way more questions than answers. The official statements are just that – very official. We’re told the investigation is ongoing. But outside the university’s carefully worded updates, a growing number of sources are raising very serious concerns that this was not a random act of violence—it was targeted.

None of what follows has been confirmed by law enforcement, and as you know, motive has not been publicly established, because despite having more cameras than Hollywood, the shooter hasn’t been identified. But the consistency of what’s being alleged is enough to warrant a report.

With that said, veteran journalist Mark Halperin’s sources have told him that Ella Cook may have been the intended target. Halperin is clear that he does not know whether this is true. But if it were, he explains, it would significantly change how this case should be understood.

Mark points out there are many things about this case that are raising eyebrows. First, the reported behavior of the attacker. In many school shootings, the shooters continue until stopped. But this shooter reportedly entered, carried out the attack, and left. That has led many to believe that this looks more like a targeted act than some random spree.

Next, the response from authorities was telling. Brown students were told they were “safe” even though no suspect had been taken into custody.

And lastly, the surveillance question that keeps coming up. Brown University is among the most heavily monitored campuses in the country. But days later, there’s been no public identification of a suspect. That right there has left many people drawing some understandable conclusions. In other words, authorities hate it when the suspect might not fit their “narrative.”

If Ella Cook was targeted, even potentially, it opens up an entirely different line of inquiry. And that’s where a question posed by X user Douglass Mackey has stopped many people in their tracks.

It’s a fair question and totally reasonable to ask.

If Ella Cook was sitting in a study hall with multiple people present, and the shooter knew exactly where to find her at that exact moment, then investigators should be looking into how that information could have traveled, right? If that’s what happened, there should be a digital trail police could follow.

And again, if this was targeted, authorities should already be looking at phones, messages, and location data tied to every single person in that room. The issue here is that the lack of answers is what’s fueling outrage.

At the end of the day, this case doesn’t need more speculation… there’s plenty of that. It needs answers.

If this was random, authorities should be able to explain how and why. If it was targeted, they owe the public an honest accounting of how that happened and whether others were involved.

Ella Cook’s family deserves that much. And the public deserves to know exactly what happened and why.
