For decades, USAID has sold itself as a “humanitarian” agency handing out aid to struggling nations. But that wasn’t the case. As soon as folks started digging, an entirely different story was uncovered. As it turns out, USAID has quietly served as a front for left-wing political experiments, funneling US taxpayer money into projects that prop up globalist and crush populist movements all over the world.

Mike Benz, executive director of the Foundation for Freedom Online, has been digging into the Brazil story, and what he’s found is damning. The trail of breadcrumbs shows USAID’s fingerprints all over Brazil’s censorship regime, which looks a heck of a lot like the same lawfare and censorship tactics that were unleashed against President Trump and his supporters.
Earlier this month, Mr. Benz testified before the Brazilian Congress on how USAID helped build the censorship state in Brazil. The only recording was in Portuguese, but he’s promised to prepare an English version for Americans to see and hear.
Earlier this month, I did a 5 hour presentation on how USAID built the censorship state in Brazil, for the Brazilian Congress. Sadly the only recorded version of that presentation is in Portuguese, so tomorrow I will be re-recording an English version. Stay tuned, it’s a big one

This matters because Brazil has become a literal playground for left-wing censorship. The regime there has been using North Korea-style tactics against their own people. They’ve banned populists from running for office, censored political speech online, and persecuted dissidents.
And it all centers around one corrupt judge: Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.

De Moraes is the crooked judge at the center of Brazil’s political crackdown. He banned “Tropical Trump” Jair Bolsonaro from running again, censored his allies on social media, and turned Brazil’s judiciary into a lethal weapon against populism. It’s the same lawfare playbook we saw Dems run in the US.

But President Trump and his allies, Marco Rubio and Revolver’s Darren Beattie, aren’t standing by. Marco Rubio recently announced sanctions on De Moraes and his pals, with visa revocations already set to fly – pun intended. It was the first major shot across the bow and a message that America won’t tolerate this regime exporting censorship.
At this point, Brazil doesn’t even resemble a free country. It’s morphing into North Korea 2.0, with a full-blown censorship regime, political lawfare, and one lunatic judge running the whole operation like a Stalinist larper.
That judge is Alexandre de Moraes, the Brazilian Supreme Court justice who has single-handedly turned the judiciary into a weapon against any type of populist opposition. This guy banned President Jair Bolsonaro from running again, censored speech on social media, and is actively persecuting dissidents. Sound familiar? Well, it should because it’s the same exact playbook that was used (and is still being employed) on President Trump and his supporters.
But here’s where the script flips: President Trump and his team just took major action. And it’s not just symbolic stuff; this is real punishment with teeth. Sharp teeth. Thanks to the work of Revolver’s Darren Beattie and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the US government just took real action against Brazil’s censorship regime, and it’s hitting them where it hurts.
.@POTUS made clear that his administration will hold accountable foreign nationals who are responsible for censorship of protected expression in the United States. Brazilian Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes’s political witch hunt against Jair Bolsonaro created a…

But then Trump, Rubio, and Beattie took their fight against censorship even farther. The Revolver piece goes on:
But this latest move takes it even further… Trump is clearly going to bat for Bolsonaro and standing up for the freedom of all Brazilians.
Here’s the scoop from Rubio:
.@POTUS and @USTreasury have sanctioned Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes under the Global Magnitsky sanctions program for serious human rights abuses. Let this be a warning to those who would trample on the fundamental rights of their countrymen—judicial robes…

This is exactly what Trump promised: to hold the international lawfare machine accountable. And he’s delivering.
In a huge move which the Brazilian government has blasted as rank political interference in its internal affairs, the Trump administration on Wednesday pulled the trigger on previously threatened sweeping tariffs on Brazil, and in addition sanctioned the judge overseeing the trial of Jair Bolsonaro, who has been accused of plotting a coup—and remains currently on trial—after rejecting the election results which brought President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to power.
“Today, the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is sanctioning Brazilian Supreme Federal Court (STF) justice Alexandre de Moraes (de Moraes), who has used his position to authorize arbitrary pre-trial detentions and suppress freedom of expression,” the US Treasury statement reads.
“De Moraes is responsible for an oppressive campaign of censorship, arbitrary detentions that violate human rights, and politicized prosecutions—including against former President Jair Bolsonaro. Today’s action makes clear that Treasury will continue to hold accountable those who threaten U.S. interests and the freedoms of our citizens.”
This is another huge shift. The Treasury is now openly admitting what populists have said for years: Bolsonaro is the target of a political witch hunt. Trump has said this exact sentiment many times, and now his administration is acting on it.
And here’s where Mike Benz steps back into the picture, this time with receipts to show that USAID was indeed funding the left-wing war against populism in Brazil.
According to Mike Benz, the moment Bolsonaro won in 2018, US taxpayer funding to Brazil didn’t just creep up a little; it literally exploded. And the math seems fishy. Before Bolsonaro took office, USAID spending was at about $31.9 million. But by 2019, that figure jumped to $68.8 million. And halfway through his term, USAID’s Brazil spending hit an incredible $87.3 million.
Here’s a shocking statistic you may not know. USAID more than doubled its spending on Brazil as soon Bolsonaro won their 2018 election. This was not because Brazil suddenly needed twice the aid. The money was spent on projects in Brazil to undermine Bolsonaro. https://t.co/gi14SKfgPi pic.twitter.com/aMRBRQYW6M

Here’s a closeup of the images Mike shared:
What on earth could’ve been going on?
Was Brazil suddenly in need of twice the humanitarian aid? Of course not, that’s absurd. The cash was likely funneled into so-called “civil society organizations,” those “activist networks” working overtime to crush Bolsonaro and prop up De Moraes’s globalist censorship regime.

By now, we all know USAID wasn’t delivering humanitarian relief. It was running a slush fund for globalist meddling, bankrolling activist armies under the phony banner of “democracy.” Sound familiar? It should. We’ve seen the same playbook here at home. And while USAID has since been defunded, don’t kid yourself; Dems will find new ways to bankroll their pet projects.
