This week marked a grim milestone for the seemingly endless and pointless conflict between Russia and Ukraine, with the total number of dead and wounded now reaching a catastrophic 1 million.

Wall Street Journal:

The number of Ukrainians and Russians killed or wounded in the grinding 2½-year war has reached roughly one million, a staggering toll that two countries struggling with shrinking prewar populations will pay far into the future.

Determining the exact number of dead and wounded in the conflict has been difficult, with Russia and Ukraine declining to release official estimates or, at times, putting out figures that are widely mistrusted.

A confidential Ukrainian estimate from earlier this year put the number of dead Ukrainian troops at 80,000 and the wounded at 400,000, according to people familiar with the matter. Western intelligence estimates of Russian casualties vary, with some putting the number of dead as high as nearly 200,000 and wounded at around 400,000.

The geopolitical causes for the war are complex, and in the final analysis there is blame to go around on all sides (including the United States for its policy of consistent and relentless antagonism of Russia in the form of NATO expansionism). Leaving the causes and the blame aside, it is overwhelmingly clear that the continuation of this deadly and destructive war presents no benefit to the American people, and it is hard to see what benefit is to be had by either Russia or Ukraine if these hostilities were to continue into the indefinite future. Nonetheless, the Biden-Harris policy has been very clear in its designs to prolong the war with its continued financial and military assistance to Ukraine, without which the continuation of the war would be impossible. So far, Biden-Harris financial support for Ukraine’s war effort is at a staggering $175 billion, which, as a percentage of GDP, remains one of the highest aid packages in history provided a foreign government.

The Europeans have chipped in a staggering 135 billion to the Ukraine war effort. In total, Western US-aligned nations have supplied over 300 billion dollars in Ukraine to prolong a conflict and enable the dead and wounded to reach a 1 million mark. It is not clear what if anything has been achieved with this money other than enriching American defense contractors and corrupt Ukrainian oligarchs alike. Most disturbing of all, Biden and Harris have shown no interest whatsoever in using this leverage over Ukraine to help arrive at a peace settlement. Kamala made it very clear that she intends to continue pillaging the American taxpayer to fund Ukraine indefinitely. Kamala sounded a lot like her new supporter Dick Cheney during the debate, in which she made the veiled WWII analogy that Putin somehow planned to conquer Europe after invading Ukraine. These talking points have a specific history in the American context, and are almost always meant to signal a desire for broader US involvement in war.

Meanwhile, Trump, when asked whether he wanted Ukraine to win the war, responded that he wanted the war to end.

This role of Trump as peacemaker, as the only president in recent history who didn’t start new wars, is something that deeply resonates with broad swathes of the American electorate—but it is also what inspires the murderous ire of a regime whose stakeholders are completely invested in endless war.

We pointed out in an earlier piece just how crucial it is for Trump to emphasize his role as peacemaker, and the fact that his running mate JD Vance was the strongest voice in the Senate against prolonging the Ukraine War is just the cherry on top.

We also emphasized that the Russia-Ukraine issue is about more than geopolitics and about more than peace. A peculiar feature of the Russia-Ukraine issue is the interesting phenomenon that some of Trump’s most pathological and dedicated enemies in the deep state are also Russia obsessives. The whole fake and discredited notion of Russian collusion is just the most infamous example of an endless stream of absurd recriminations involving Russia. From the deep state’s point of view, it is a way to kill two birds with one stone—gin up conflict with Russia all the while framing Trump as a national security threat on account of an alleged relationship with Russia. And it is precisely these Russia-obsessives in the deep state that have been the most vigorous in terms of weaponizing the nation’s security apparatus for its own political purposes against Trump. Thus, by calling for an end to the Ukraine war, Trump not only advocates the humanitarian position, and the position that best suits the interests of American foreign policy, he is also attacking head on the key rallying issue and money spigot behind the forces in the deep state most responsible for the degradation of our domestic freedoms via censorship, weaponization of the justice department, and more.

Nowhere is the intersection between Trump derangement and Ukraine-Russia obsession better personified than in the would-be Trump assassin Ryan Wesley Routh. Routh was not simply someone who was obsessed with furthering the American deep state’s objectives in Ukraine. His passion for the issue was so extreme that he traveled to Ukraine and was actively involved in recruiting soldiers for the war effort. In fact, Ryan Routh’s passions for Syria, Afghanistan, and Ukraine just happened to exactly overlap with the geopolitical objectives of the American intelligence community. A recent Wall Street Journal piece confirms not only that Routh was reported to the FBI and State Department, but that he had dealings with a former CIA agent responsible for recruiting humanitarian assistance for Ukraine. It is very possible that he was somehow working for the American intelligence community in some capacity, leading to dark but eminently reasonable suspicions about who or what may ultimately be behind the two assassination attempts on Trump.

Here Routh appears in a propaganda video for the nazi group Azov Battalion, which despite being a terror group has enjoyed quiet US assistance in Ukraine.

Despite its Nazi and terrorist ties, the US government approved assistance and training for Azov earlier this year.

The Intercept:

Biden administration said it would allow the Azov Brigade, a Ukrainian military unit, to receive U.S. weaponry and training, freeing it from a purported ban imposed in response to concerns that it committed human rights violations and had neo-Nazi ties.

A photo posted by the unit itself, however, seems to suggest that the U.S. was providing support as far back as December of last year.

Whether Routh was working directly or indirectly with the US government, or whether he was simply a deranged leftist drunk on MSNBC Ukraine propaganda, his example shows just how far the endless war obsessives are willing to go to stop the peace candidate Donald Trump. We pray for the safety of the former president.
