It was the smirk heard ’round the world. Remember when Covington Catholic student Nick Sandmann “smirked” while a radical old hippy drummed in his face at an anti-abortion rally in DC? The media and the left—along with some on the right, like Ben Shapiro—pounced on the Covington Catholic kids before getting the full story. This rush to judgment cost many media outlets a pretty penny when they were later sued for defamation for wrongly painting young Nick as a “racist.” Yet, it was Sandmann’s smirk that got global attention and became a rallying cry for conservatives across the country who were ready to stand up against the madness of left-wing extremism.

NBC News:

The Covington Catholic High School student who was seen in a widely circulated video appearing to face off with a Native American activist during protests in the nation’s capital last week said he wasn’t disrespectfully smirking at the activist but rather smiling.

“I see it as a smile, saying that this is the best you’re going to get out of me,” Nick Sandmann, a junior at the Kentucky school, said. “You won’t get any further reaction of aggression. And I’m willing to stand here as long as you want to hit this drum in my face.”

“People have judged me based off one expression, which I wasn’t smirking, but people have assumed that’s what I have,” Sandmann said.

Sandmann was in Washington on Friday with classmates for an anti-abortion rally, the March for Life, when he says people from the group Hebrew Israelites started shouting slurs at the students.

“I heard them call us incest kids, bigots, racists,” Sandmann told Savannah Guthrie in an exclusive “Today” interview.

We’re pleased to report that the iconic smirk is back and smirkier than ever. This revival is courtesy of a group of frat boys who reclaimed their college campus from mouth-frothing pro-Hamas progressives. They did this by smirking triumphantly as they rallied around the American flag. These frat brothers were pelted by crazed pro-Hamas supporters at UNC Chapel Hill while they protected the American flag as it was re-hoisted following its removal by protesters.

A glimmer of sanity shines through. God Bless these boys.

Axios:

Classes at UNC-Chapel Hill were canceled Tuesday afternoon after demonstrations over the Israel-Hamas war escalated into confrontations involving protesters, counter-protesters and police.

  • The cancelation, which coincided with the last day of classes, came hours after campus police detained 36 people who camped out on the university’s main quad. 27 were cited for trespassing and released on-site, per UNC officials. Six were arrested and transported to Orange County Detention Center.

Why it matters: The protests, which mirrored similar events at university campuses across the country, had attracted hundreds of students — including those from other institutions like N.C. State and Duke.

The latest: After police cleared the area Tuesday morning, UNC’s campus was quiet for a few hours before hundreds of demonstrators returned to the quad around noon.

  • The demonstrations intensified after protesters replaced the American flag at the center of campus with a Palestinian flag, leading to a confrontation with police. Campus staff eventually replaced the flag and erected a fence around the flagpole.

These so-called left-wing “protests,” which are actually riots, have spiraled out of control, which is always the case with violent progressive gatherings.

The left is going all-in on a designated terror organization.

After restoring the flag to its rightful place, these young patriots stood guard and playfully filmed the protesters, who were seething with anger. It was quite the spectacle to witness.

The good news is that the patriotic smirk is back and better than ever, folks.

In today’s divisive left-wing mob climate, where so many Americans hesitate to stand up and speak out, it’s truly inspiring to see these young men—often vilified by the left—step into the spotlight and take a stand.

We have a long way to go to heal this nation, but there may be hope for America yet. Interestingly, our success might just rest in the hands of young, white American frat boys.
