You might want to glance at your 2023 BINGO card. Did you happen to mark down “Joe Rogan exposes 2020 election rigging, while DeSantis confirms Joe’s victory”? It’s not something many of us anticipated, but it’s exactly where we find ourselves now, thanks to a bizarre and uncomfortable NBC interview with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Many conservatives are scratching their heads over DeSantis claiming that Trump lost and Joe won the election without adding further context like, “thanks to a tsunami of unchecked mail-in ballots,” or “he won because the media and Big Tech ran cover for him…” Ron didn’t offer any of that, but ironically, the former Bernie Bro, and anti-Trump critic Joe Rogan actually did. Rogan is convinced the media “rigged” the election to make sure Trump stayed out of the White House.

Washington Examiner:

Comedian and podcast host Joe Rogan said Tuesday that the 2020 presidential election was “for sure” rigged by the legacy media.

“For sure it was rigged by the media — for sure,” Rogan told comedian Tom Segura on The Joe Rogan Experience, “just the Hunter Biden laptop case and the Russia collusion case, just those two things, just those two narratives that they knew were not true, that they pushed out in front of everybody and that we know had to do with trying to get rid of Trump.”

Meanwhile, during that awkward interview with an NBC female reporter who dominated the conversation, Ron DeSantis conceded, without elaborating further, that Trump lost and Biden won, basically saying, “end of story.”

DeSantis then shifts his focus to the topic of mail-in ballots, the Hunter laptop from hell, and the weak GOP, and he blames it on Trump, claiming the former president entrusted the country to Fauci, and his FBI censored the laptop. It’s unclear whether DeSantis is asserting that mail-in ballots and the FBI’s censorship is what led to actual fraud or not, as his position isn’t very clear.

It’s fair to note that DeSantis wasn’t always a critic of Dr. Fauci.

DeSantis also praised Chris Wray, calling him “talented.”

This reboot strategy from Team DeSantis seems rather risky, especially when 70 percent of Republicans believe there was cheating that impacted the 2020 election.

CNN:

The share of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents who believe that President Joe Biden’s 2020 election win was not legitimate has ticked back up, according to a new CNN poll fielded throughout July. All told, 69% of Republicans and Republican-leaners say Biden’s win was not legitimate, up from 63% earlier this year and through last fall, even as there is no evidence of election fraud that would have altered the outcome of the contest.

The new poll, conducted in the run-up to former President Donald Trump’s indictment on Tuesday over efforts to overturn the 2020 election, suggests the share of election deniers among his partisans has climbed to a level last seen before hearings held last year by the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack. In January of 2022, 67% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents said they thought Biden’s win was not legitimate; that had been as high as 72% in CNN polling in the summer of 2021.

Among Republican-aligned adults, the share who believe there is solid evidence proving the election was not legitimate stands at 39%, while 30% say it is merely their suspicion that Biden did not win legitimately, and 29% say Biden’s election was legitimate. The 39% of Republicans and Republican-leaners saying that Biden’s win was not legitimate and that there is evidence for it is not much changed from May, when 36% said the same, and it is well below the high point for that belief, which was 54% shortly after the attack on the US Capitol in January 2021.

The DeSantis campaign faces ongoing struggles, grappling with financial woes, media missteps, and the unpopular “establishment” talking points on Trump’s indictments, January 6th, and the 2020 election. Can he turn it around? Time will tell. In the meantime, unexpected warriors like Joe Rogan are saying the things the country wants to hear.
