When a corporate deal starts looking like progressive politics on steroids, red flags should be flying high.

Thankfully, that’s exactly what happened during the failed Netflix–Warner Bros. Discovery saga. Sure, this looked like just another massive media merger. But behind the scenes, red flags were waving all over the place. Lawmakers were deeply uneasy about the move, and even Trump was calling foul. Regulators started circling like sharks, and through it all, Netflix kept sending signals that its real loyalties were political.

By the time everything started to flush out, the $82.7 billion power play had turned into a chaotic, crazy mess. And yes, one really awkward moment went down in the men’s bathroom and basically became the final nail – or tampon – it Nextflix’s coffin.

But before we get to the final “straw,” it is important to understand just how politically charged this deal was right out of the gate.

According to multiple reports, CEO Ted Sarandos and his team were actively meeting with senior Trump admin officials as the merger chat heated up. This was a full-court press from Netflix to calm the rising waters.

News 9:

Sarandos spoke with several Trump administration officials — but not with President Trump — on Thursday. The Netflix executive had a meeting at the White House with Mr. Trump’s chief of staff, Susie Wiles and, earlier in the day, he met at the Justice Department with Attorney General Pam Bondi, the antitrust division’s acting chief Omeed Assefi and other senior Justice Department staff, according to sources familiar with the conversations.

Justice Department officials told Sarandos they expected to conduct a very comprehensive antitrust investigation into the Netflix-Warner Bros. Discovery deal, sources told CBS News. Warner Bros. Discovery owns streaming and film studios, along with cable channels including CNN, Food Network, HBO, HGTV, TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies. The merger of Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros.

Discovery will require approval from federal antitrust enforcers. The entire thing was shady from the get-go and people were alarmed about this possible merger.

Let’s face it, the scale of the merger, political climate, and Netflix’s woke ideological persona had lawmakers watching closely. And the deeper the deal went, the more worried they got.

But honestly, a lot of people were worried, even outside the beltway bubble.

Many Americans were worried that combining Netflix’s woke nonsense with Warner Bros. Discovery’s massive media footprint would dangerously reshape the entire entertainment landscape. Netflix and the left were clearly making a cultural power move.

Terrance K. Williams:

DOJ MUST BLOCK the Netflix-Warner Bros. Discovery merger IMMEDIATELY!

This $82.7B mega-deal would let woke Netflix gobble up Warner Bros and giving anti-Trump elites total Hollywood dominance to censor conservatives, mute pro-Trump creators, and shove extreme wokeness everywhere.

Remember Netflix’s shady $60M+ Obama crony deal with Higher Ground Productions, flooding the platform with leftist propaganda.

They have Susan Rice on the Board too!! The Worst Merger in American History

This merger was never going to glide through peacefully. There were way too many political plays going on.

And Netflix wasn’t exactly helping its own case.

If anything, they seemed hell-bent on doubling down on the exact political “partnerships” that were making regulators, lawmakers, and President Trump nervous.

When it mattered most, Netflix doubled down on its loyalty with the Obama political orbit. That move poured even more fuel on an already raging fire.

Breanna Morello:

YIKES

Netflix is siding with Susan Rice. President Donald Trump said fire her and get Warner Bros approval, they said no. Netflix would rather tank their own deal than cut ties with the far-left Obama wing. Their agenda is clear.

By this point, Netflix was in deep waters, with no lifeboat in sight.

As we know, in the Swamp, perception matters. And the perception was that this woke company, loyal to Obama, wanted to own basically all of media, turning streaming into “state-run TV.”

Then came the moment that really plugged things up.

During the months-long battle over Warner Bros. Discovery, Republican lawmakers toured Netflix headquarters and encountered something that quickly turned everybody’s stomach.

A tampon. But not just any tampon. It was a basket of them in the men’s bathroom.

The New York Post:

There were many defining moments featured in the months-long battle for the ownership of Warner Bros. Discovery: Sit-downs to woo President Trump, high-profile Congressional hearings, a brutal bidding war, and a tampon.

Yes, a tampon.

During the deal negotiations, while Netflix was wooing skeptical GOP lawmakers that it wasn’t a left-wing company looking to get more powerful by snapping up WBD, a delegation of lawmakers paid a visit to its  headquarters, and one was both shocked and disturbed to find a basket containing tampons in the men’s restroom.

To be clear, there are other factors involved in CEO Ted Sarandos’s decision to cancel his nearly completed purchase of WBD’s studio and streaming service. But the “Tampon Incident,” as it has become known on Capitol Hill, does carry some weight in the unwavering political opposition from the GOP to Sarandos’ ambitions.

“This is 2026, not 2020,” said one GOP staffer with first-hand knowledge of the matter. “What were they thinking?”

Indeed, what were they thinking? Well, they have a progressive mission, and nothing will stop them.

To be totally fair, the tampon disaster wasn’t the only reason the deal unraveled. But it certainly didn’t help.

In a moment when Netflix was trying to convince nervous and skeptical Republicans that it wasn’t this ideologically crazy company, the tampons couldn’t have been worse.

Times have changed fast. Just a few years ago, corporate America tripped over themselves to embrace new gender hooey at every turn. Today, the political environment is very different. Poll after poll shows Americans are not on board with the gender confusion movement, especially when it targets kids.

So, in the end, the deal that once looked like a media empire in the making simply couldn’t hold together under the regulatory pressure, political nerves, a higher competing bid, and a tampon.

Here is where things now stand.

News 9:

Netflix said on Thursday that it will not match Paramount Skydance’s latest bid for Warner Bros. Discovery, clearing the way for a massive merger that could shake up the entertainment and media industry.

Netflix agreed in December to buy part of Warner Bros. Discovery for $27.75 a share, or $82.7 billion. But Paramount Skydance had made a $30 a share all-cash offer to buy all of the company, and on Tuesday raised its offer for Warner Bros. Discovery to $31 a share (Paramount Skydance owns CBS News).

If there is a lesson to be learned from this saga, it’s that the old progressive corporate playbook isn’t working the way it used to.

Netflix likely never had a clean path here. The company has spent way too many years aligning itself closely with the Obamas and Susan Rice, and that reputation followed it straight into this merger fight. By the time regulators, lawmakers, and rival bidders all weighed in, the deal was already circling the drain.

And yet, here is the twist that makes a lot of people frustrated: the public is so tired of all the “woke” nonsense, but Americans still can’t quit streaming. Netflix is still enormously successful, politically controversial, and culturally powerful all at the same time.
