Every so often, the internet digs something up that makes people stop mid-scroll and ask if the entire world has lost its mind and if the rapture is happening soon.

That’s exactly what’s happening right now with this old New York Times opinion piece that’s making the rounds again. The disturbing headline was enough to spark widespread outrage. After all, crimes against children are unforgivable morally, and they’re also felonies. These crimes are universally the most condemned acts in American law and culture. And there is nothing even slightly nuanced about it.
So, that aside, what’s raising a lot of eyebrows now isn’t just the moral and legal part; it’s now part politics as well. Because not that long ago, left-wingers and many parts of legacy media seemed oddly comfortable trying to normalize crimes against minors.
The same group, who are now suddenly outraged over all things Jeffrey Epstein… the man convicted of abusing minors.

Which brings us to the post that reignited everything.
Senator Mike Lee shared a screenshot of that old New York Times op-ed titled “Pedophilia: A Disorder, Not a Crime,” and the reaction online was fast and furious.
No, it’s a crime

When this garbage first ran, it hid behind lots of clinical language and tried to slice and dice this clean distinction between attraction and criminal behavior. No. Critics then and now say the same thing: the media and the left tried to muddy the moral waters on something the public has never “struggled” to understand. Never.
But this renewed focus on that disturbing New York Times op-ed has also reopened chatter on the overall push from the left to normalize crimes against children. They really went all-out to try and make pedophilia a normal household thing and they did it by introducing the world to a so-called “virtuous pedophile” by the name of Todd Nickerson… complete with a documentary:

Several outlets, including Vice, Salon, and The Independent, published or amplified pieces involving Todd Nickerson, a self-described pedophile who repeatedly argued for greater public understanding of people who experience these attractions but claim they do not act on them.
Sure, Todd.
This disgusting coverage highlighted Nickerson’s claims about his past, his participation in the so-called “Virtuous Pedophiles” forum, and his argument that society should distinguish between urges and criminal behavior. And if you didn’t do that, guess what? You were the real monster, according to Todd and the left.
A self-confessed paedophile who wrote an article asking people to be understanding of his ‘sexual orientation’ has penned a new article addressing his critics, titled: ‘I’m a paedophile, you’re the monsters.’
Todd Nickerson, a freelance graphic designer from Tennessee, published his first article on popular online magazine Salon on 21 September.
In the article, he explained how he believes his molestation as a child is the reason he is now sexually attracted to young girls, and mentioned his membership of the ‘Virtuous Paedophiles’ forum – an online community of paedohpiles who have vowed never to act on their sexual urges.
Looking back now, especially in light of all the liberals fainting and fanning over Epstein, is how sharply they’ve shifted.
Not so long ago, several outlets were giddy to explore this highly disturbing topic of abusing children (or, hey, just thinking about it) in some nuanced way. Now, today, many of those same outlets are “outraged” as Epstein-related stories dominate headlines.
That contrast is likely why these older articles are resurfacing now. And it’s not because public opinion has wildly changed. It hasn’t. No sane, decent person would ever entertain this garbage. It’s because the media’s ol’ switcheroo is starting to look highly situational and very political.
Supporters of publishing these pieces framed them as these uncomfortable but really necessary conversations that we just had to have as a society. Now, everybody on the left is calling Trump a monstrous “pedo” with zero proof. And never mind the actual evidence showing the exact opposite.
Alongside the Independent and New York Times articles being re-shared, there’s also coverage of Nickerson’s own published pieces from VICE making the rounds.

Back in 2017, Salon actually deleted their article on Nickerson.
The far-left website Salon has apparently deleted a controversial article authored by a self-admitted pedophile.
As chronicled by the Gateway Pundit, Salon allowed self-described pedophile Todd Nickerson to publish an article on their site discussing his behavior on Sept. 21, 2015.
In the article, which has been saved on a web archive, Nickerson claimed he never acted on his urges, but made the case that he should be allowed to live openly regarding his attraction to children.
Mysteriously, the article has vanished from Salon’s archives, and a search for “Todd Nickerson” on their site currently brings you to a page showing no results.
Those pieces generated fierce backlash when they first appeared. Seeing them again, in the current political climate, where the left is now so “outraged” over Epstein, is rather interesting.
It’s amazing how quickly media framing changes depending on the political winds. Now, looking back at this older “edgy” coverage alongside today’s over-the-top Epstein moral posturing, people are going to notice the politicization and take the left’s “outrage” for what it’s worth… which isn’t much.
