While much of Europe has spent the last decade apologizing for its own existence, Italy just did something totally different, and it’s got a lot of people applauding. Instead of issuing another tired, failed speech about “shared responsibility” and “global migration flows,” Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has just approved legislation that will use the Italian navy to stop illegals from reaching Italian shores in the first place.

That’s called sovereignty, folks.

Anyone who lives here knows there is a deep, instinctive pride in being Italian. The food, the language, the architecture, the art, the history, and the faith are all part of this amazing rhythm of life. Italians don’t see that as something outdated or embarrassing. They see it as something worth protecting. And they’re not willing to surrender it to satisfy some failed, dangerous globalist experiment that hasn’t worked anywhere else.

Just look at what Europe has done to destroy itself:

White Papers Policy Institute:

The European Union has been taking ~740,000 illegal migrants each year for almost 20 years. ~70% each year are male, mostly of fighting age. Only ~20% of illegal migrants ordered removed leave each year, very few are deported by state authorities. Europe has allowed 10 million illegal migrants to remain within its borders. The reality of what’s happening in Europe is alarming. It’s a quiet, steady surrender, masquerading as “compassion” and “morality.”

X Freeze:

Europe is destroying itself by letting more boats in

Their borders are bankrupting them

The people arriving in boats come from ultra-low-wage countries

But the moment they step into a European country, they are put on welfare

In Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Finland, and the Netherlands, non-EU migrants have the highest welfare dependency rates

Imagine handing someone a throne and a golden-spoon buffet out of nowhere and expecting them to work

They won’t. They’re already getting paid more just by sitting at home with free housing than they’d earn working back home

Many come from countries where $500 a month is a fortune, so they have no incentive to work when European welfare pays more than that…keeping them permanently dependent

Why would they go to work and pay taxes like normal citizens?

43.8% of non-EU citizens in Europe face poverty risk, yet they still access welfare at higher rates than natives

In the UK, non-UK nationals collect £11.56 billion in Universal Credit

In Germany, non-Germans receive €22.2 billion in welfare payments – 47.4% of the total

Most of the non-native population is now on welfare, leeching off hard-earned citizens’ wealth

Borders or bankruptcy. Europe must choose. There is no in-between

Thankfully, Italy doesn’t want to go down that road.

Here’s what Meloni’s coalition government just approved.

Washington Examiner:

The new migration legislation would also enhance border control surveillance operations and strengthen cooperative efforts with European Union agencies, the Associated Press reported.

The bill heads for debate in Italy’s Chamber of Deputies and Senate. If the bicameral legislature approves the legislation, it will become law. Incidentally, the new legislation introduced by Meloni’s government comes a day after European Union reforms on migration and asylum, the Associated Press reported.

A key component of the EU’s new immigration policies is to ease laws governing asylum refusals across the continent. It also permits European nations to deport migrants from a country deemed “safe,” or to apply for asylum in a country not in the EU, according to the Associated Press.

“We are delivering another key building block for a functioning, credible asylum system,” said Lena Düpont, a legislator from Germany’s European People’s Party, regarding the EU’s new migration policies. “By enabling manifestly unfounded asylum applications to be rejected more quickly and efficiently in the future, we are speeding up asylum procedures, relieving the burden on member state systems, and helping people avoid being stuck in legal limbo for years.”

What makes this so important is the shift in tone. Think about it: for years, European leaders acted as if border enforcement was this horrific, immoral move. Italy is now saying something very simple: a nation has the right to decide who enters and under what conditions.

That’s the most common-sense sentiment ever.

And as we all know, that way of thinking doesn’t make Italians hateful. It makes them serious about their country and their people.

Meloni is addressing illegal entry and the chaos that follows when governments pretend borders are some optional “idea.” Italians have watched other European countries struggle with soaring crime, social tension, housing shortages, and a full-blown cultural nightmare. They don’t want that in Italy.

And they’re doing something about it.

Bravo, Italia.
