The slogan “Obama deported more than Trump” is one of those lines that sounds really good, as long as you don’t know what you’re talking about. This claim completely collapses the moment you apply even basic scrutiny to it. It’s been floating around for years, and now it’s being dusted yet again as a way to shift blame for the chaos Dems created and pretend it all used to be calmer, kinder, and more humane under Barry.
This X post sums it up perfectly:

The “Obama deported more” fantasy depends on everybody not understanding how deportations were counted and how the border actually functioned under Obama. Also, don’t forget how badly Joe Biden blew the doors off the system while he was installed in the White House. Because we all know Joe Biden didn’t inherit a mess; he created one. Joe invited millions of unvetted illegals into the country, waved them through, and then handed Trump the job of cleaning up the mess because Americans demanded it at the voting booths. Border security was a top-three election issue, because no serious country allows its sovereignty to dissolve under the fake guise of compassion.
Now the left is trying a new trick… they’re pretending Obama enforced the law and deported more than Trump, simply by using grace and calm.
Good grief.

This whole absurd narrative got a fresh reboot thanks to a conveniently selective memory from a newly “independent” journalist… Terry Moran, the loser who was fired from ABC for making nasty remarks about President Trump and Stephen Miller. As you can see, he’s a really “bipartisan” voice.
Moran took to X to declare that Obama deported more than three million people, insisting it happened without chaos, masks, or force, and that what we’re seeing now in the streets isn’t the left’s fault; it’s the Trump “dictatorship” in full swing.

The problem with Terry’s claim is that this framing leaves out the most important details. And without those details, the comparison sounds damning. But with them, the whole thing falls apart.
JD Vance stepped in and explained exactly why this argument doesn’t hold up. He laid out the two main facts the left hopes no one brings up, because once you understand them, the slogan stops working.
This argument is just entirely fake, for two reasons.
1) In the Obama administration, they counted being turned away at the border as a deportation. A person would show up, be sent back, and counted as a deportation. We have to do deportations from the interior of the country because Biden and Harris let them walk in.
2) In the cities that are not sanctuary cities, the deportation process is orderly and normal–like most law enforcement. In Minneapolis and a few other sanctuary jurisdictions, local jurisdictions and a few leftwing agitators have decided to wage war on all immigration enforcement officers.
They are hoping that a little chaos will convince us to give up on immigration enforcement. They are wrong.

So, just to recap… first, the Obama administration counted people turned away at the border as “deportations.”
That’s very different from interior deportations, which are what Trump is dealing with now after Biden and Harris let millions walk in and invade all over the country.

Second, deportations are orderly and routine in non-sanctuary jurisdictions.
The chaos everyone keeps calling out is happening in left-wing cities that made a political decision to obstruct law enforcement and protect illegals. When local officials and activists decide to wage war on federal law enforcement, disorder is their goal.
They’re betting that enough noise and confrontation will convince Americans to give up on enforcing immigration law altogether.
This is why the “Obama deported more” line is such a useful one for the left and media. It ignores how the numbers were counted, ignores Biden’s open-border disaster, and ignores the deliberate obstruction happening in sanctuary cities. It reframes the left’s chaos as something Trump is whipping up and hopes Americans won’t notice the difference.
