Let’s be honest, the H-1B moment on Laura Ingraham’s show was not Trump’s finest hour. The phrasing landed all wrong, the base clearly didn’t like it, and the critics pounced like they were licking their chops, waiting for it.
Trump needs to get out of his bubble and back on the ground listening to the American people who elected him to work for us.
His H-1B comment shows how out of touch with the base he has become.

Fair enough. He kicked a hornets’ nest.
President Trump’s answer was framed oddly. Trump’s not wrong about wanting to put American workers first. That’s the goal of an America First movement, obviously. But the idea that we can fill every single gap in our economy without any foreign workers isn’t realistic. And it’s not betrayal to the cause to admit that. It’s just economics. The real problem isn’t foreign workers themselves; it’s when they’re used as a cheap shortcut instead of investing in Americans.
What Trump should have said is this:
“Stop using foreign labor as a replacement for American workers. Start using it as a last resort.”
America can and should train more welders, coders, nurses, and engineers, and maybe sometimes, in highly specialized trades, we need foreign help. We can protect American jobs and still bring in specialized talent in small numbers where it’s genuinely needed, but the entire H-1B scam is a corporate giveaway and not the answer.Charlie Kirk understood this well:
Last December, Charlie Kirk and I discussed the scandal that is the H-1B system and outlined the need for an immigration program that puts the American worker first

But here’s the thing that separates President Trump from every other politician in modern history. He actually listens to his supporters, and he course-corrects. He pays attention when the America First movement pushes back. That’s why he grew so much on immigration and H-1Bs between 2016 and 2020, and it is why the movement is where it is today. Is there more work to be done? Yes. But luckily, we have a president who listens and adjusts.

And that appears to be the mood inside the Trump camp right now. They know they need to sharpen the message, show real movement, and make it unmistakably clear that American workers come first. So they sent out one of their strongest communicators, Stephen Miller, to lay it all out. And you can see that shift happening in real time. The good news is that Miller didn’t show up with a bunch of vague promises or feel-good soundbites. He went on Newsmax and delivered a decent amount of reassurance for the base. He highlighted actual steps and policy and muscle that’s already in motion. Anyone who thought Trump was drifting on H-1B can rest assured that he got the message and is regrouping.
🚨JUST IN: Stephen Miller says the US is focused on revoking TENS OF THOUSANDS of foreign visas, restricting H-1Bs, and carrying out massive H-1B FRAUD investigations to end discrimination against American workers.
“President Trump has put a $100K FEE on new H-1Bs. We’re seeing a dramatic change in the processing of these visas.”
“[Chips] jobs left for Taiwan….[Trump is] talking about a program in which you have a knowledge transfer to Americans about how to do a very specific manufacturing process.”
“The Dept. of Labor has launched Project Firewall to investigate illegal abuses of H-1B…the highest standard of vetting in visas…State Dept. has revoked tens of thousands of visas, and they’re just getting STARTED on tens of thousands more…we have a new focus on denaturalization.”
“And for the first time in half-a-century: net NEGATIVE migration.”

This is exactly what the base wanted to hear. Clarity. Action. Muscle. No more loopholes. No more corporate carve-outs. No more foreign labor being used as a shortcut while American workers get sidelined. The news Miller delivered shows a full strategic shift that hits every major concern people raised after that Ingraham interview. Visa fraud investigations. Restricting H-1Bs. Raising the cost barrier. Revoking tens of thousands of visas. Knowledge transfer programs that stop outsourcing before it starts. Even denaturalization for bad actors. This is the kind of hard-nosed America First policy people fought for in 2016 and demanded again in 2024.
Nobody is pretending Trump is perfect. But what separates him from the rest of Washington is simple.
Steve Bannon said it best:
“Trump’s not perfect; he’s an imperfect instrument… but he’s infused by divine providence. Without him, we’d have nothing. Stay focused. Don’t lose sight of the mission.”
President Trump listens, he adapts, and when the movement pushes back, he pushes forward with results. And Miller’s update demonstrates a course correction is real and will hopefully build as we move forward.
The only thing left now for the Trump administration to do is follow up strong words with tough action.
