Trump kicked a hornet’s nest during his latest interview with Laura Ingraham. The sparks flew when Laura asked him about foreign workers. The powder keg question was this:

“If you want to raise wages for Americans, you can’t flood the country with thousands of foreign workers.”

Trump responded by saying:

“You have to bring in talent. You can’t take people off the unemployment line and say, “Go make missiles.’”

And that exchange right there set off a wave of confusion and outrage all across social media.

Laura Ingraham:

🚨I PRESSED President Trump on H-1B visas.🚨

“If you want to RAISE WAGES for Americans, you can’t flood the country with THOUSANDS of foreign workers.”

@POTUS: “You have to bring in talent… You can’t take people off the unemployment line and say, ‘go make missiles.’”

The debate continues.

President Trump’s answer was framed oddly. Trump’s not wrong about wanting to put American workers first. That’s the goal of an America First movement, obviously. But the idea that we can fill every single gap in our economy without any foreign workers isn’t realistic. And it’s not betrayal to the cause to admit that. It’s just economics. The real problem isn’t foreign workers themselves; it’s when they’re used as a cheap shortcut instead of investing in Americans.

What Trump should have said is this:

“Stop using foreign labor as a replacement for American workers. Start using it as a last resort.”

America can and should train more welders, coders, nurses, and engineers, and maybe sometimes, in highly specialized trades, we need foreign help. We can protect American jobs and still bring in specialized talent in small numbers where it’s genuinely needed, but the entire H-1B scam is a corporate giveaway and not the answer.

Charlie Kirk understood this well:

Trump’s stance on H-1B visas has evolved… a lot. Back in 2016, he was way more open to the idea of expanding the program. At one point, he even said he was “in favor of the H-1B” because it brought in what he called “smart people.” Ouch. That position didn’t sit well with the MAGA base, who have seen firsthand how the program was being used by tech giants to replace qualified American workers with cheaper foreign labor. Thankfully, over time, and after a slew of pushback, Trump began to shift, and it shows.

But more pushback is needed. Moments like this interview with Laura Ingraham, where the tension between protecting American jobs and attracting top talent came to the surface, will keep moving him in the right direction, if the people make their voices heard.

To his credit, Trump has made some strides toward reforming the H-1B system. His team has raised the wage requirements for visa holders, made it harder for companies to use H-1Bs as a loophole for cheap labor, and tightened eligibility standards to favor higher-skilled positions. He also pushed for a wage-based selection process, and that means companies will have to pay more if they truly want the so-called “best and brightest,” not just the cheapest.

So while he’s still fine-tuning the message and coming around, his record shows a shift toward putting American workers first. It’s progress, not perfection. The fight continues, and MAGA patriots will continue to press this issue with extreme urgency.
