The NFL is back at it. It’s 2025 and the league has gone woke on steroids, leaving many people scratching their heads and asking why. After all, the kneeling debacle kicked off by Colin Kaepernick was supposed to teach them a lesson. Fans were told, again and again, that ratings tanked so badly the NFL would never go down that road again.

But here we are. They didn’t just ignore that lesson, they doubled down. The NFL isn’t just dabbling in politics anymore, it’s drowning in it. And while they dress it up with generic platitudes, don’t be fooled. It’s 100 percent left-wing propaganda.

This time around, all 32 NFL teams are “required” to print a social justice message in their end zones. They must choose from the following options:

  • End Racism
  • Stop Hate
  • Choose Love
  • Inspire Change
  • It Takes All of Us

One has to wonder, how is this any different from kneeling? It’s the same – arguably bolder – woke nonsense, just dressed up in more “palatable” packaging.

And here’s another question: if kneeling was such a devastating blow to the NFL, why are they doubling down now? Maybe the hit wasn’t as big or as long-lasting as many believed. As angry as a large swath of the public was, it looks like they just couldn’t let go of their favorite “all-American” pastime for the long haul.

In hindsight, the signs were there that the fallout from kneeling wasn’t nearly as devastating as we originally thought.

This has always been an overrated and overstated cause and effect. When Colin Kaepernick kneeled during the national anthem to protest police treatment of African-Americans, it was turned into a political debate over the flag, fueled by President Trump tweeting about the issue.

While it may have had a slight impact on some ratings, overall the numbers fall then and subsequent rise has been due to a number of factors that media writer Anthony Crupi, who studies this exact thing, has pointed to. There were an inordinate amount of bad games in 2016, Crupi’s studies showed, and an oversaturation of football combined with an explosion of cord-cutting.

Yes, the kneeling and the George Floyd chaos triggered short-term dips, but they didn’t stick. Ratings roared back in a big way, proving that going woke doesn’t always mean you go broke.

ESPN:

NFL television ratings rose by 5 percent in 2018 as compared with the 2017 season… The average game in 2018 drew 15.8 million viewers as compared with 14.9 million in 2017.”

Journalist Scott Greer summed up the NFL’s woke agenda best in a recent X post. He explained that the league’s wokeness is ultimately our fault. When the NFL disrespected the fans and the National Anthem, Americans didn’t walk away for good. They looked the other way for a while, then came right back, no questions asked, as if nothing had happened.

And if that’s not proof enough, just look at the NFL male cheerleaders. This isn’t about appealing to the fan base, because we all know that nobody tunes in to watch men shaking their booties on the sidelines. It’s about sending a message. The NFL is reminding everyone who was outraged over George Floyd and the kneeling: go ahead, throw a fit, but in the end you’ll come back.

It’s a deliberate slap in the face to the fans. The league knows it, the fans know it and yet nothing changes.

The NFL has figured out the pattern. Fans may turn the channel for a few Sundays, but they always come back. No matter how woke the league gets, viewers can’t seem to stay away… and that’s exactly why the NFL keeps pushing the progressive agenda and will stencil these “woke” phrases in end zones across the country.

The truth is, the power to stop all this political nonsense rests with the fans. But so far, we either can’t or won’t do it.
