Trump administration officials expect National Guard troops to be deployed on the streets of the capital on Tuesday evening, according to a White House official who spoke on condition of anonymity to share operational details. Some of the 800 Guard troops began gathering at the D.C. Armory as part of the president’s policing push, which also includes temporarily taking over the city police department and deploying roughly 500 federal agents. Mr. Trump said his plans were justified by out-of-control crime in Washington, even though official figures show a sharp decline.
According to the Times, some National Guardsmen have already begun conducting foot patrols.
And while mainstream media loves to “fact-check” that DC is safe, the city is just coming off a twenty year high in homicides, where it ranked as the fourth most murderous city, just behind Detroit.
