Norman Rockwell’s “Happy Birthday” Liberty Bell is a timeless tribute to America’s birthday. Nobody before or since has captured the heart and soul of traditional American spirit quite like Rockwell.

Frank Godwin’s 1917 “Philadelphia Patriotic Scene” is pure Americana, with flags flying, crowds cheering, and a proud city standing tall at the height of American patriotism. It’s a powerful reminder of who we were and who we still are at our best.

There’s something deeply touching about this July 5, 1947 cover of The Saturday Evening Post by artist Steven Dohanos. Here we see a proud mom greeting her soldier son with the American flag in hand. There’s no fireworks, no fanfare, just love, pride, and patriotism on the front porch. It captures that post-war American spirit so perfectly.

One of America’s most iconic paintings is found in the Selectmen’s Room at Abbot Hall. It’s “The Spirit of ’76” and was originally titled “Yankee Doodle.” This glorious work of art was painted by Archibald M. Willard, of Cleveland, Ohio, and it was on display in Philadelphia during the 1876 centennial celebrations.

This dreamy, rain-soaked painting is “Flags on the Waldorf” by Childe Hassam, part of his famous “Flag Series” from World War I. Painted in 1917, it captures New York City draped in patriotic pride as American flags ripple and blur through the mist and movement of a bustling street scene. Hassam wasn’t just creating art—he was rallying a nation.

This February 1979 cover from “Boys’ Life,” painted by Norman Rockwell, captures everything the Boy Scouts used to stand for… tradition, patriotism, and passing down values from one generation to the next. Before the Scouts went woke and weird, they were a pillar of American boyhood. This image, with two proud Scouts standing in front of a Revolutionary War mural, reminds us of the America we grew up loving and the one we’re fighting to bring back.

These timeless works of art aren’t just pretty pictures; they’re love letters to a country built on grit, faith, sacrifice, and freedom. In every brushstroke, you can see and feel the spirit of a nation that remembers and honors who she is. On this Independence Day, may we hold tight to that spirit, protect it fiercely, and pass it on proudly.

America has taken hit after hit, internal sabotage, uniparty tyranny, and betrayal from within… but through it all, we’ve stood strong and stayed true to who we are.
