At this point, Brazil doesn’t even resemble a free country. It’s morphing into North Korea 2.0, with a full-blown censorship regime, political lawfare, and one lunatic judge running the whole operation like a Stalinist larper.
That judge is Alexandre de Moraes, the Brazilian Supreme Court justice who has single-handedly turned the judiciary into a weapon against any type of populist opposition. This guy banned President Jair Bolsonaro from running again, censored speech on social media, and is actively persecuting dissidents. Sound familiar?
Well, it should because it’s the same exact playbook that was used (and is still being employed) on President Trump and his supporters.

But here’s where the script flips: President Trump and his team just took major action. And it’s not just symbolic stuff; this is real punishment with teeth. Sharp teeth. Thanks to the work of Revolver’s Darren Beattie and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the US government just took real action against Brazil’s censorship regime, and it’s hitting them where it hurts.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio:
@POTUS made clear that his administration will hold accountable foreign nationals who are responsible for censorship of protected expression in the United States. Brazilian Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes’s political witch hunt against Jair Bolsonaro created a persecution and censorship complex so sweeping that it not only violates basic rights of Brazilians, but also extends beyond Brazil’s shores to target Americans.
I have therefore ordered visa revocations for Moraes and his allies on the court, as well as their immediate family members effective immediately.

This isn’t just symbolic. Rubio’s order strips US travel access from Moraes, his Supreme Court cronies, and their entire inner circle, yes, including family. That means no shopping sprees in New York, no champagne toasts in Miami, and no safe harbor for globalist tyrants who crush political opponents at home and silence Americans abroad.
This is the bold action the populist free speech movement has been begging for.
And the best part is Moraes never saw it coming…
When U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced in May new visa restrictions on foreign officials who censor Americans online, many Brazilian elites scoffed, dismissing it as purely performative. Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, the powerful jurist behind Brazil’s sweeping censorship regime and the man who just banned former President Jair Bolsonaro from running again next year, reportedly told allies that Donald Trump wouldn’t follow through and that nothing would come of Rubio’s threat.
But now Rubio’s State Department has blocked entry into the United States not only to Moraes but also to his allies on the Supreme Court and their immediate family members. “Moraes has been able to rule with tyranny with no sign that anyone would oppose it,” said a Trump administration official. “This will allow that resistance within Brazil to increasingly manifest itself.”
Moraes likely figured Trump wouldn’t bite. But he figured wrong.
Just hours before this bombshell came down, Brazilian police raided Bolsonaro’s home, acting on Moraes’s latest tyrannical order. He banned Bolsonaro from speaking to foreign officials, slapped an ankle monitor on him, and shut down his social media.
You know, like every precious democracy does, right?
Michael Shellenberger goes on:
CNN reports that Brazilian authorities have accused Bolsonaro and his son, a Congressman, of illegally working with the Trump administration to impose sanctions. President Lula told CNN his nation would put Trump on trial had Trump done in Brazil what he did on January 6 in the U.S. When asked if the Trump administration was retaliating against Moraes for sentencing Bolsonaro, an official called the police raid “an intensification of the persecution that President Trump has called attention to” and said that “the persecution architecture is linked to the censorship architecture because they are part of the same system and the system’s leader is Moraes.”
Brazil’s elite are famously cosmopolitan and enjoy traveling to New York, Miami, San Francisco and other American cities. “Oftentimes foreign officials in question have wives who have social relationships and shopping they enjoy in the United States,” said the administration official, “and so travel bans can be effective.”
Clearly, these left-wing political elites aren’t used to suffering any type of consequences. They weaponize courts, crush dissent, and expect they and their families can jet-set in peace.
Not anymore.

If you want to turn your country into a dictatorship, you can stay there and enjoy it.
To hammer the message home further, President Trump personally sent this letter to Bolsonaro, backing him fully and blasting Brazil’s sham trial. Trump wrote:
“I have seen the terrible treatment you are receiving at the hands of an unjust system turned against you. This trial should end immediately!”
[…]
“It is my sincere hope that the Government of Brazil changes course, stops attacking political opponents, and ends their ridiculous censorship regime. I will be watching closely.”

And of course, right on cue, the tantrums followed.
Brazil’s corrupt regime tried to flip the script and accuse Trump of foreign interference. This is the classic projection from the same people who’ve been censoring Americans and colluding with US tech platforms to crush free speech, all in the name of “democracy.”
Shellenberger’s piece continues:
Moraes, Brazil’s President, and their allies have long denounced criticism of their censorship and persecution of Bolsonaro as foreign interference. “Brazilian justice must be respected,” said President Lula on X last week, after Trump imposed 50% tariffs on Brazil. “We are a great, sovereign country with a historic tradition of diplomacy with all nations. Brazil will adopt the necessary measures to protect its people and its companies.”
The Trump administration official dismissed the charges of interference, noting that Brazil’s censorship has affected Americans. “The Trump administration has long looked with disapproval at the coordinated censorship by Moraes, which has not only affected the Brazilian people, including former President Bolsonaro, but also spills over to Americans and affects American speech rights,” the official said.
What Trump, Rubio, and Beattie are doing isn’t “foreign interference.” It’s more like self-defense.
Because the truth is, Moraes’s censorship machine didn’t just go after Bolsonaro. It actually reached across borders and suppressed Americans who dared to question the regime. So now, that makes this our business, and Team Trump just made it their mission.
And if you’re wondering what’s next, Steve Bannon isn’t playing around. He wants to hit them where it really hurts… in the pocketbook.
Look:
The legacy media mocked Trump for being all bark and no bite on free speech. But today the bite is here, and it hurts. The State Department is cutting off tyrants. The tariffs are real. The message is loud and clear: If you target American citizens, censor speech that crosses your regime, or if you dare weaponize the law to crush populist opposition, you will pay.
And we have Marco Rubio and Darren Beattie to thank for it.

This isn’t just about Bolsonaro. Yes, Brazil is spiraling, but this issue is bigger than that. This is about drawing a line in the sand for the entire world to see. Rubio and Beattie just brought the hammer. And it looks like this is only the beginning.
