Another day, another hoax. Just another half-baked story propped up by the propaganda legacy media and attention-hungry players hoping to squeeze just a few more drops out of the ol’ outrage machine. We’ve seen this script before, from Jussie Smollett’s midnight sandwich run gone sideways to Bubba Wallace’s fake garage pull to the Duke Lacrosse case and on and on and on.

And now, it’s the WNBA’s turn.

Enter Angel Reese, the self-appointed victim of a racism scandal that never actually happened. No evidence, no credible eyewitnesses, no specific details. Just some sketchy, vague, unsubstantiated claim from a player who couldn’t even clarify what was supposedly said or when. Yet that didn’t stop the media from foaming at the mouth and running headlines like they’d uncovered the next Emmett Till moment in downtown Indianapolis. And just like that, the media and Reese smeared the good people of Indiana without a shred of proof.

CBS News:

Reese, who is Black, and Clark, who is White, were meeting for the seventh time in their ongoing — and much-talked-about — rivalry. Clark later said she did not hear any racist remarks during that game, but acknowledged that it was loud in Indiana’s arena throughout the game.

“It’s super loud in here, and though I didn’t hear anything, I think that’s why they’re doing the investigation,” Clark said earlier this month. “That’s why they’re looking into it. That doesn’t mean nothing happened, so I’ll just trust the league’s investigation, and I’m sure they’ll do the right thing.”

Both teams had previously issued statements supporting the investigation, as did the WNBA Players Association. The Sky were playing in Phoenix on Tuesday. The WNBPA did not issue any immediate comment after the league’s announcement.

“We appreciate the swift and thorough process undertaken by the WNBA to investigate these allegations, which were not substantiated,” Pacers Sports & Entertainment CEO Mel Raines said Tuesday in a statement distributed by the Fever. “At Gainbridge Fieldhouse, we are committed to providing the best possible basketball experience for players and fans where hate speech has absolutely no place. Indiana is home to the world’s greatest fans, and we look forward to an exciting season of Fever basketball.”

Reese was asked earlier this month if she was able to provide the WNBA with details about the incident. She did not offer specifics on if she had done so, saying “that’s not a me question.” She also did not reveal what type of comments were made, or any other specifics about what prompted the investigation.

But moments earlier, in that same availability with reporters, Reese said she was receiving widespread support from across the league because of the alleged incident.

“Obviously, there’s no place in this league for that,” Reese said at that time. “I think the WNBA and our team and our organization has done a great job supporting me. … Going through this whole process, if it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone.”

Well, there’s no place for that in the league – because it didn’t actually happen. Now that it’s been properly investigated, we know the truth: it was a hoax.

But make no mistake, Ms. Reed charged full-speed straight into the eye of the hoax with statements like this:

CBS News:

The WNBA says it cannot substantiate claims that racist fan behavior took place during a game in Indianapolis between the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever earlier this month.

The league said its investigation included gathering information from fans, team and arena staff, as well as an “audio and video review of the game.”

Here’s the statement from the WNBA:

But sadly, these race hoaxes are nothing new.

Revolver:

Well, it’s another day, and yet another race hoax bites the dust. One thing that stands out in this growing laundry list of fake hate crimes is how much the left really loves their “noose” props. Jussie Smollett used one, Bubba Wallace’s NASCAR stunt involved one, and now here we go again…

Now we’ve got yet another noose hoax—only this time, it’s not a D-list actor or a NASCAR pit crew member. It’s a middle-aged black woman working for a local school board.

Her name is LaTarsha Brown, and she went to great lengths to convince the world that her white coworkers hated her. Thankfully, her little plot didn’t work—and the entire lie blew up in her face.

[…]

Here’s the photo of the so-called “noose” that Ms. Brown planted on her own desk, hoping to frame her white coworkers as hateful bigots in some low-rent reboot of the Jussie Smollett saga.

Gee, all that was missing was a Subway sandwich and someone yelling, “This is MAGA country!”

So it’s no surprise this latest stunt from Ms. Reese has people fired up, demanding she, the WNBA, and the media apologize for spreading a fake story.

CC Report:

This is one of those things where you can’t unring the bell, the damage has already been done, you’ve labelled an entire fanbase with the worst possible label, the national media has already run to press with it

You’ve got Chiney Ogwumike on ESPN saying this is a thing that factually happened, you’ve got an entire writeup in the Times saying that this happened, you’ve got Annie’s fucking Tea Party or whatever saying THEIR SOURCES say it’s true, etc etc etc

And all of it – ALL OF IT – could have be prevented if you had just done your fucking due diligence before releasing a public statement

If I’m the Fever I’m out for blood – that organization has been through the goddamn wringer the past few weeks and for no reason

It is time to make fucking amends with the franchise keeping your entire league afloat you absolute birdbrains

Make your apology as loud as the fucking accusation

Which you are never going to do because when it comes to Caitlin and the Fever you are as feckless as a fucking baby deer

Douglas Mackey nailed it: the WNBA is hemorrhaging fans, and you’d think they’d be doing everything possible to keep the few they’ve got.

It’s starting to feel as if we’re living through an epidemic of race hoaxes. And here’s the ugly truth of it all: if “systemic racism” were actually as rampant as the left claims, they wouldn’t have to keep making it up. Nooses in locker rooms, slurs at sporting events, fake “hate mail,” it’s the same tired playbook, over and over again.

These lies don’t just smear innocent people; they feed the left’s favorite fairytale: “White man bad.” It’s the glue holding the Dem Party together. Divide and conquer. But enough is enough. It’s time to start holding these hoaxers accountable, Reese included. And the media shouldn’t get to play dumb and move on to the next fake scandal without consequences. If they want to act like activists instead of journalists, they should be treated like activists: biased, agenda-driven, and untrustworthy.
