Cryptocurrency legislation in Congress may come to a screeching halt if President Donald Trump and his family continue to launch crypto business ventures.

A bill providing a regulatory framework for stablecoins, cryptocurrencies tethered to the price of a fixed monetary asset, like the U.S. dollar, has been breezing over hurdles on Capitol Hill this year.

The Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins Act, also called the GENIUS Act, has received early bipartisan support.

It passed out of the Senate Financial Services Committee on March 13 with broad bipartisan support 18 - 6 and could get a full vote on the Senate floor within President Donald Trump's first 100 days.

But now a Democrat across the Capitol is threatening to tank the effort if the measure is not rewritten to ensure that Trump and Elon Musk can never get involved in the stablecoin industry.

California Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters, the ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee, is planning on voting against the GENIUS Act this week if it does not include language banning Trump and Musk from issuing stablecoins, one of her aides revealed to Politico.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt pushed Monday that reporters needed to calm their reactions to President Donald Trump musing about a third term.

The Constitution prohibits presidents from serving more than two terms but Trump has said in recent interviews that he's open to being president for more than eight years.

That has prompted concerns in light of Trump's refusal to concede the 2020 election to President Joe Biden - which he still falsely claims was 'totally rigged' - and his role in the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack.

'You guys continue to ask the president this question about a third term and then he answers honestly and candidly with a smile and then everybody here melts down about his answer,' Leavitt told reporters outside the White House Monday.

She had just gone on Fox News Channel, where she was asked about Trump's third-term comments too, and gave as similar answer.

'It's funny to me that journalists ask the president this question. He gives an honest and candid answer, and then they spiral about his answer,' Leavitt told Fox News Channel's John Roberts.

Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna left the conservative House Freedom Caucus because of their opposition to her bid for proxy voting for new parents.

Luna, 35, had a child in 2023 and has brought up a petition to force the House to vote on a measure regarding remote voting for parents with young children.

Republican Speaker Mike Johnson has opposed the maneuver, and now the far-right House Freedom Caucus is moving against the measure too.

Due to the group's opposition to her proxy voting petition, Luna announced her split from the Freedom Caucus on Monday.

'I am resigning from the Freedom Caucus,' a letter she posted online wrote.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt gave a few details for President Trump’s ‘Liberation Day’ event on Wednesday without revealing the exact nature of the tariffs he’s dropping on foreign imports.

The president will be in the Rose Garden with members of his Cabinet to announce his plan for ‘reciprocal’ tariffs against ‘all’ countries.

But details about the plan have yet to be announced.

‘I will let the President make the announcement on Wednesday,’ she said when asked.

Navarro, who also advised Trump in his first term when he slapped steel and aluminum tariffs on China, pointed to the 1963 'chicken tax' imposed by President Lyndon Baines Johnson.

That tax hit imports of European light trucks, in particular the iconic VW Vanagon.

'Back in the ‘60s, we had what was then West Germany and France raising tariffs on our chickens, our poultry. And Lyndon Johnson responded with what would be called the chicken tax, a tax on light trucks,' Navarro told Fox News Sunday.

'And we saw almost immediately that the imports here of Volkswagen vans, the old hippie van, started going down and what happened was we had this -- this just renaissance of light truck development,' he said.

Elon Musk's DOGE has uncovered Social Security Administration files indicating that millions of migrants were recently added to the benefits program.

The DOGE leader showed a graph to a crowd in Green Bay, Wisconsin, highlighting that over two million non-citizens received new social security numbers in FY2024.

The same display showed that, according to data from an internal Social Security Administration (SSA) database, over 4.8 million non-citizens have received new SSA numbers since FY2021.

Billionaire venture capitalist Antonio Gracias, a close friend of Musk standing on stage close to the Tesla CEO, talked the audience through the findings during an event hosted by the DOGE leader's political group, America PAC.

Attorney General Pam Bondi dismissed a Justice Department investigation based on a Biden-era lawsuit claiming Georgia intentionally suppressed black Americans votes.

'Contrary to the Biden Administration’s false claims of suppression, Black voter turnout actually increased under SB 202,' Bondi said. 'Georgians deserve secure elections, not fabricated claims of false voter suppression meant to divide us.'

'Americans can be confident that this Department of Justice will protect their vote and never play politics with election integrity,' she added in a statement on the dismissal.

Bondi says that this is part of the effort to carry out President Donald Trump’s commitment ‘to dismantling weaponized litigation and ensuring fair, lawful elections for all Americans.’

Outrage ensued on Monday as Elon Musk launched his latest bribe attempting to get a conservative Wisconsin judge elected to the state's Supreme Court .

The billionaire leader of DOGE kicked-off a new social media campaign on Monday with the apparent aim to boost Republicans' preferred candidate to replace a retiring liberal judge.
