By now, most people know the internet is full of fake accounts—we deal with them every day in some way, shape, or form. But few realize just how coordinated and widespread the deception really is. Behind the scenes at X, there are entire networks of these engagement farms—many of them are based in India—and they’re gaming the system to manipulate conversations, boost visibility, and manufacture influence.

And you’re at the very center of this massive farming scam.

There’s a new video that lays the whole thing out.

Here’s how it works: large groups of users—often working out of the same operation—follow each other en massse to inflate their follower counts and make them look more authentic. They post and reply literally hundreds of times per day, not to contribute anything meaningful, but to drive up engagement numbers through volume. These replies are usually generic, spammy, or flattering, and they often target high-profile accounts or trending topics to stay visible and get attention.

To make their accounts seem more trustworthy, many of them falsely claim to be from the US, the UK, or other Western countries. Some even pretend to be black, Asian, or other minority groups to add an extra layer of so-called legitimacy. But this very detailed video reveals that it’s all smoke and mirrors.

These aren’t real people expressing real opinions—they’re part of a coordinated operation designed to game the algorithm and sway perception.

When you stop and really think about it—these scammers are willing to spend hours chasing just a few extra dollars—going from making $1 an hour to maybe $3 by scamming on X—it puts the whole operation into perspective. If they’re willing to deceive for that little, you have to ask: is there anything they wouldn’t do? And this doesn’t just apply to Indian bot farms—it goes for the Nigerian rings too. This type of grift has no bottom.

Watch this video to see exactly how the scam works, who’s behind it, and why it’s more dangerous than people realize.

The truth is, social media isn’t the organic public square it pretends to be—much of it is a stage, and a lot of the actors are total fakes. These engagement farms are meant to distort conversations, inflate influence, and drown out authentic voices with coordinated white noise. And the worst part is that most people have no idea it’s even happening.

But now, thanks to this video, hopefully more people will start to understand how the process actually works. With the curtain pulled back, it’s up to all of us to stay sharp, question what we see, and learn to spot the difference between real people and the reply bots pretending to be them.
