DEI is dying—and not a moment too soon. What started as a supposed “feel-good” cleft-wing corporate scheme has morphed into a toxic, unpopular ideology that’s poisoning every corner of American life—from universities to corporate boardrooms to the courtroom itself. And now, finally, the tide is turning. Not because the left had a moral awakening, but because the backlash is now too loud to ignore.

One of the most dangerous places DEI has taken root is in the left’s lawfare. The weaponized legal world has become a literal playground for woke lawyers and judges who are not hand-picked not for their legal chops but for their loyalty to the progressive agenda. These are the activists who twist the law into a partisan pretzel—not to protect justice but to punish Trump and anyone who supports him.

That’s why this next story is so important. It’s about a powerful law firm—Paul, Weiss—that got dragged into the political mud thanks to DEI and partisan games. But now, President Trump just forced them to bend the knee—and the result is a major win in this ongoing fight to de-weaponize the American justice system.

Trump took to Truth Social to announce the big news.

Here’s a quick breakdown below. But again, even though President Trump officially canceled his executive order against Paul Weiss, he didn’t back down. He got everything he wanted and then some. The EO was the hammer, and once they cried “uncle,” he holstered it. Classic Trump move. The Art of the Deal:

After issuing an executive order to investigate Paul, Weiss over its partisan practices, President Trump agreed to withdraw the order—but only after the firm agreed to a full-blown overhaul. Paul, Weiss will now:

  • Drop DEI hiring practices.
  • Commit to merit-based promotions and representation.
  • Provide $40 million worth of pro bono legal work to support the President’s initiatives.
  • Publicly condemn political weaponization in the legal field.
  • Undergo a third-party audit of its employment practices.

In short, the firm admitted what we already knew: the justice system has been hijacked, and it’s time to right the ship.

Here’s President Trump’s full Truth Social post:

Today, President Donald J. Trump agreed to withdraw his March 14, 2025 Executive Order regarding the Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP law firm (“Paul, Weiss”), which has entered into the following agreement with the President:

1. Paul, Weiss agrees that the bedrock principle of American Justice is that it must be fair and nonpartisan for all. Our Justice System is betrayed when it is misused to achieve political ends.

Lawyers and law firms play a vital role in ensuring that we live up to that standard as a Nation. Law firms should not favor any political party when it comes to choosing their clients. Firms also should not make decisions on whom to hire based on a person’s political affiliation. To do otherwise is to deny some Americans an equal opportunity for our services while favoring others.

Lawyers abandon the profession’s highest ideals when they engage in partisan decision-making, and betray the ethical obligation to represent those who are unpopular or disfavored in a particular environment.

2. Paul, Weiss affirms its unwavering commitment to these core ideals and principles, and will not deny representation to clients, including in pro bono matters and in support of non-profits, because of the personal political views of individual lawyers.

3. Paul, Weiss will take on a wide range of pro bono matters that represent the full spectrum of political viewpoints of our society, whether “conservative” or “liberal.”

4. Paul, Weiss affirms its commitment to merit-based hiring, promotion, and retention, and will not adopt, use, or pursue any DEI policies. As part of its commitment, it will engage experts, to be mutually agreed upon within 14 days, to conduct a comprehensive audit of all of its employment practices.

5. Paul, Weiss will dedicate the equivalent of $40 million in pro bono legal services over the course of President Trump’s term to support the Administration’s initiatives, including: assisting our Nation’s veterans, fairness in the Justice System, the President’s Task Force to Combat Antisemitism, and other mutually agreed projects.

Statement from the White House: “The President is agreeing to this action in light of a meeting with Paul, Weiss Chairman, Brad Karp, during which Mr. Karp acknowledged the wrongdoing of former Paul, Weiss partner, Mark Pomerantz, the grave dangers of Weaponization, and the vital need to restore our System of Justice.”

In response to the President’s announcement, Paul, Weiss’s Chairman Brad Karp said: “We are gratified that the President has agreed to withdraw the Executive Order concerning Paul, Weiss. We look forward to an engaged and constructive relationship with the President and his Administration.”

We’ve covered the DEI disaster from every angle imaginable—and almost a year ago, we dropped an exclusive on how it’s finally collapsing in universities. What makes this especially interesting is how the so-called “George Floyd Effect” helped fuel so much of this academic rot in the first place.

Something called the Faculty Diversity Action Plan (FDAP), launched shortly after George Floyd’s death, kicked DEI hiring and student admissions into overdrive.

Revolver:

There is a consistent pattern in the examples above indicating an aggressive increase in DEI hires beginning in 2020. Perhaps this indicates something of a “George Floyd Effect” in academia.

Universities have also adapted the technique of “cluster hiring,” where multiple faculty are hired at the same time with a focus on particular specialties, to laser in on left-wing political goals. As explained by John Sailer at the National Association of Scholars, even without diversity statements, cluster hiring makes it easier to rig the system by centralizing the hiring process. Such centralization takes faculty hiring out of the hands of normal academic departments and puts it substantially in the hands of administrators, who are more likely to be obsessed with mindlessly hitting quotas.

What’s important about all these factors is that none of them will actually be mitigated by simply abolishing diversity statements. Rather, we see the truth: Diversity statements are simply a mechanism through which university administrators achieve a political goal: hiring fewer white men and more of everybody else. Academics openly admit to this goal, and they engineer it in many other ways.

But there’s another force coming into play. For years, the university DEI racket has been about finding ways to rig the application process to hire those who are less qualified. But especially since Floyd season began in 2020, there have also been changes to the entire academic ecosystem that are undermining the entire concept of being “better qualified.”

Consider academic publishing. One of the reasons it is typically easy to observe that DEI hires are less qualified than their melanin-deficient competitors is that they often fall substantially (or laughably) short on standard career thresholds for an aspiring scholar. For the regular public, the job of professors is to teach college classes, but in academia, the currency of success is published papers and other recognized research accomplishments. Getting a paper in a field’s top journal (such as Nature or Science for scientific endeavors) greatly improves an academic’s chances of being hired, and the conspicuous lack of such papers from many DEI hires drove home the farce of handing them prestigious jobs.

The Secret George Floyd Effect: DEI Rot in Universities Is Deeper and Darker Than You Imagine

As you can see, a perfect storm of bad ideas and massive political and social pressure turned DEI into a raging bonfire—and now, finally, the flames are starting to die down.

Thanks to President Trump, we’re finally seeing what happens when someone stands up to these elite institutions and tells them, “Enough.” We can’t be a winning country or a serious country if we put charity above excellence, and we certainly can’t be great again if we have a judicial branch that is run on left-wing politics, not justice. That’s why this is a big win for America and hopefully the beginning of a new trend.
