A high school player appeared to throw a ruthless cheap shot at an opponent during a playoff basketball game in Ohio over the weekend.
Reynoldsburg came from behind to beat Hilliard Bradley in a Division I boys district final matchup on Saturday. While the big story should have been the Raiders overcoming a double-digit deficit to keep their season alive, it was a seemingly dirty play that captured the attention of the internet.
At one point in the game, a Reynoldsburg player punched Hilliard Bradley’s Ben Mirgon directly in the groin. The act looked intentional.

A man who claims to be related to Mirgon said on social media that the player who delivered the blow was not ejected. The player also did not receive a technical foul, which has been confirmed via box scores.
The social media user who says he is related to Mirgon said the groin punch game after Mirgon hit back-to-back three-pointers and led to a “big momentum swing” in the game.
“That’s my cousins boy who got the nut shot. Big momentum swing. Things right after Ben hit back to back threes. … Somehow they just called an intentional foul. No technical not ejected,” Dan Mirgon wrote on X.
From the angle we saw, it looks like the player who threw the punch was fortunate not to be kicked out of the game.
The victory gave Reynoldsburg its first district title since 2018 and kept their season alive.

The New York Rangers missed the postseason this past season and are now entering a crucial offseason. New York brought in former Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan to lead the team forward, and the organization is very excited for the future. But in order for the Rangers to get back to being Stanley Cup contenders, the front office will need to add some talent. The free agent pool seems to be pretty strong this year, and New York could be a player on the open market. NHL writer Adam Herman of Bleacher Report has listed the Rangers as a landing spot for free agent Mitch Marner. Marner is expected to be the biggest name on the market and could leave the Toronto Maple Leafs this summer. "It's New York. They love flashy moves and big changes are coming. Chris Kreider's departure is all but inevitable. Artemi Panarin is in the final year of his contract. Could the team and player decide to part ways this summer? The Rangers also signed Alexis Lafreniére to a seven-year contract last Fall, but his play this season did not live up to expectations." "The Rangers need a fresh start, and so does Marner. New York isn't the path of least resistance, but GM Chris Drury can make room for him if he identifies Marner as worth the effort." Adding a player like Marner could drastically improve this Rangers club and give them more of a legitimate chance in the Eastern Conference. Marner was great for Toronto this past season, putting up 27 goals and 75 assists. New York has the tools to be very successful, and if they were to add someone like Marner, a postseason return could be in play. There will be other teams vying for his services, but don't sleep on the Rangers being very active this summer.
There was little doubt that Angel Reese was the best player on the court for the Chicago Sky on Saturday. Reese recorded a double-double, scoring 12 points and 17 rebounds in a game the Indiana Fever won 93-58 in front of 17,274 fans at Gainbridge Arena. Reese only had one assist, made no steals or blocks, and gave up five turnovers in the loss. She was a -20 on the court. Those numbers don’t sound impressive, but newcoming starters Courtney Vandersloot, Kia Nurse, and Ariel Atkins combined for just 19 points, eight assists, and eight rebounds. Saturday’s game was a shock for the Sky, who were shot out of the building by Caitlin Clark and the Fever. Clark was the best player on the court, recording a triple-double on 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. She also recorded two steals and four blocks. The Chicago Sky’s Player of the Game Following the game, the Sky posted that Reese was Chicago’s Player of the Game for her efforts in recording a double-double in the 35-point defeat. Sky face backlash for Angel Reese post Fans on social media taunted the Sky for making Reese the Player of the Game after she was outplayed by the Fever on Saturday. “Celebrating a losing effort,” posted a fan. “Didn’t know we gave out POTG awards for teams that lost by 35,” wrote another. “On 5-14 shooting. You can’t be serious,” suggested a fan. “Losing by 35 shouldn’t warrant a play of the game recognition… So basically everyone is getting participation trophies,” believes a poster. “Y’all still gassing these double doubles while losing by almost 40 as if it means something,” commented another. “More shot attempts than points..,” posted a fan.

Chelsea’s striker hunt continues It’s been well known for many months now that Chelsea are targeting a new striker signing as a priority this coming summer transfer window. Now that they have advanced past the second round, the Panthers will be sending a 2027 first-round pick to Boston in order to complete the Brad Marchand trade. The Florida Panthers moved one step closer to the ability to defend their Stanley Cup title as they pummeled the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-1 in Game 7 on Sunday, May 18. The Panthers move on to the Eastern Conference Finals to face off against the hot-skating Carolina Hurricanes. The Panthers' playoff success has also been good news for the Boston Bruins. Boston traded veteran forward Brad Marchand to Florida last March for a 2027 second-round pick, with stipulations that would promote the return to a first-round pick. For it to happen, Florida must have won two rounds of playoffs, and Marchand must have played in at least 50% of their playoff games. Both possibilities have been completed. The Panthers won two series, and Marchand played in all 12 games in the first two rounds. Boston is now going to receive Florida's first-round pick, either in 2027 (protected) or 2028 (unprotected). Marchand, 37, has paced Florida's playoff run. He scored the series-equalizing goal in overtime of Game 3 to avoid a 3-0 Toronto series lead, then added a goal and two assists in the massacre of Game 7. Marchand has now eliminated the Maple Leafs five straight times His contribution has been unambiguous and unprecedented. It's his fifth time spearheading the elimination of the Maple Leafs, tying an NHL record for most series wins against one franchise. When asked during the game regarding the milestone, Marchand was humble in his response, deciding to discuss the team performance instead. 'It wasn't me that beat them, it was our teams. Our teams have always been really deep and good, and I am fortunate to be part of a really, really deep team here right now. So, I don't look at it that way,' Marchand said. As they prepare for Game 1 against the Hurricanes on Tuesday, May 20, all eyes will be once again on Marchand to see if he can continue on his torrid pace.
