Charles “Wide Neck” McDowell became an internet sensation back in 2018 when his mugshot went viral—not because of his crimes, but because of his cartoonishly thick neck.

This is the mugshot that changed everything for McDowell:

McDowell was originally arrested for selling drugs, but that was just the tip of the iceberg. His rap sheet includes stalking, failure to pay child support, driving with an invalid license and drug possession. Quite the role model, right? He’s like the second coming of George Floyd, but with a much thicker neck.

Yet, instead of being shunned for his crimes, he was elevated to internet superstardom—all because people found his freakishly wide neck amusing.

Sadly, his internet fame likely gave McDowell a bigger and better opportunity to become a very dangerous predator.

Fast forward seven years, and McDowell is back behind bars, this time for something far more horrific—sending naked photos to a minor. The man who was once just a funny meme now stands accused of preying on and abusing innocent children.

And speaking of memes, they were everywhere:

Below is McDowell’s new mugshot.

This career criminal became so popular—and was embraced so with such open arms—that he even launched a rap career, performing under the names “DBD Wayne” and “Wide Neck.”

Now, he’s an accused child predator—a horrific fall from grace. But let’s be honest, he never should’ve been elevated in the first place.

Collin Rugg:

NEW: Internet sensation, Charles “Wide Neck” McDowell, arrested for allegedly sending n*de pictures to a minor.

McDowell’s original mugshot went viral years ago because of his massive neck, which launched his ‘internet career.’

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia, McDowell was charged with multiple felonies, including transmission of video/photo of n*dity without consent and electronically furnishing obscene material to a minor.

McDowell is currently being held without bond.

Here are more details on this disturbing arrest.

Tribune:

According to TMZ, the 37-year-old was taken into custody on February 19 by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. McDowell faces felony charges of sending nude videos or photos without consent, electronic distribution of explicit material to minors, and harassing phone calls.

Authorities claim that he sent sexually explicit videos of a woman—without her consent—to her 13-year-old son, 16-year-old daughter, mother, and another individual multiple times via cell phone and laptop. He is currently being held without bond.

McDowell racked up nearly a million followers on Instagram, riding the wave of his viral mugshot fame. But the real kicker is his bio, where he proudly declared, “I ain’t ever going back to that life.”

Well, not only did he go back—he managed to make it a whole lot worse for himself, but mostly for those poor innocent kids.

Let this be a hard lesson in why we should be a lot more selective about who we turn into cultural icons. Glorifying criminals—whether it’s McDowell, George Floyd or any other thug—never ends well.
