Omaha police arrested six different people on charges of sex trafficking of a minor.
Court documents said police were called to the AmericInn near 13th and Spring streets on Jan. 6 after the report of a theft. Police said two juveniles, 15 and 16 years old, were seen in the hotel related to the theft.
The minors were taken to Project Harmony to be interviewed, and during that process, it was found they were transported from Denver to Omaha multiple times.
According to court documents, the juveniles were brought to Omaha by Eduardo Perdomo, 26, and Alfredo Zambrano-Hurtado, 24, for the purpose of selling them for sex. They got a hotel room for them and placed an ad on a website.
The affidavit said half of the money made was taken by Perdomo and Michel Martinez-Gonzalez, 28.
The investigation yielded some phone numbers for police to call, and when officers called the numbers, court records showed that three men, later identified as 31-year-old Vishal Goswami, 26-year-old Kavankumar Patel, and 23-year-old Sumit Chaudhari, offered the officers two juvenile girls for the purpose of sex. The affidavit said all of the phone numbers were found on the website that is used for commercial sex.
On Jan. 7, police followed a vehicle from the AmericInn to the area of 17th and Vinton streets, where they performed a traffic stop. Perdomo and Zambrano-Hurtado were taken into custody for questioning.
Court records said Perdomo admitted to transporting juveniles for the purpose of sex and Zambrano-Hurtado made "incriminating remarks."
An officer attempted a traffic stop near 99th and Q streets for a traffic violation, according to court documents. It was found that the car belonged to Martinez-Gonzalez. Reports indicate she failed to yield, and eventually, the officer stopped pursuing her and let Homeland Security Investigation continue to follow her.
HSI continued to follow Martinez-Gonzalez to a gas station, where she was taken into custody for questioning.
Court documents said Martinez-Gonzalez admitted to communicating with buyers and taking half of the money made.
In court on Thursday, prosecutors accused Perdomo of taking sexually explicit photos of the girls. Some of those photos were posted online and were in his phone.
It was revealed during Thursday's court proceedings that Martinez-Gonzalez is a citizen of Columbia and is here illegally. Perdomo is in the U.S. illegally, and he is from Venezuela. Zambrano-Hurtado is also in the country illegally.
Perdomo was arrested for two counts of labor or sex trafficking of a minor, criminal conspiracy, visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct, and possession of child pornography.
Zambrano-Hurtado and Martinez-Gonzalez were arrested for two counts of sex trafficking of a minor and criminal conspiracy. Both men have no ties to Omaha, and they are known to travel frequently, including internationally.
Chaudhari was arrested for first-degree sexual assault and sex trafficking of a minor.
Goswami and Kavankumar were arrested for sexual assault of a child and sex trafficking of a minor.
A judge set bond at $10 million for Perdomo.
Bond was set at $5 million for both Zambrano-Hurtado and Martinez-Gonzalez.
Chaudhari, Goswami, and Patel were held on no bond.
None of the defendants can have any contact with children or with co-defendants.
