It’s not much fun being old Joe Biden these days. The “most powerful man in the world” is languishing in obscurity. He is ignored by the press, forgotten by the public, shunned by his party, and avoided by his own supposedly handpicked successor. Whatever happens two weeks from now, Biden will be quickly shunted off into the wastebin of history, joining John Tyler, Franklin Pierce, and various other 19th-century trivia answers on the embarrassing list of U.S. presidents to be toppled by their own party before even getting to run for reelection. He will, beyond doubt, be remembered as a failed president.

Unless…

Joe Biden has exactly one outside-the-box way to flip the script and head into the sunset, if not triumphant, then at least with some dignity intact: Officially endorse Donald Trump for president.

No, seriously.

Improbable? Sure. Insane? Maybe. And yet, buried within that insanity is genius. Let us explain.

Revenge

Hey, who are we kidding? This is the biggest reason for Biden to take his shot, and it’s not a bad one at all.

Joe Biden didn’t step aside of his own accord. Instead, he was betrayed and ripped apart by the members of his own party, who stabbed him in the back and destroyed him when he was at his most vulnerable. Biden’s own party looked at the man who led them to victory against Donald Trump and decided to put him down like a sick family dog (Nancy Pelosi playing the role of Krisi Noem in this scenario). Biden insisted for weeks that he would not be leaving, but his allies refused to listen, only responding with ever-stronger esclations and pressure tactics.

Esteemed political reporter Mark Halperin described how Nancy Pelosi systematically weakened and isolated Biden in the days after the debate, until he felt he had no choice but to surrender the presidency.

Even Halperin underplays the possible duplicity involved. Biden’s successful removal came after a surprise COVID diagnosis that may have weakened his judgment. To this day, there remains the mysterious question of who wrote Biden’s withdrawal announcement and why it was merely tweeted out with Biden not delivering any public address for several days.

It was nasty, brutal, and unpleasant. It was humiliating. But worst of all, it’s what Joe Biden will be remembered for most, absent any change.

And only one person has the power to make that change: Joe Biden himself. But oh, what a change he could make. Kamala’s polls are sagging. Her early vote advantage is disappearing. Prediction markets have shifted from 50/50 to a nearly 2:1 advantage for Donald Trump. Driven by some hidden desperation, her campaign has abruptly pivoted from avoiding all interviews to granting as many as possible, with expected results.

It’s two weeks until judgment day, and Kamala Harris’s #Brat carriage is turning back into a pumpkin. And already, people are standing up to say the once-unsayable: Should’ve stuck with Joe!

Biden now has the chance to finish off his rebellious protege in the most dramatic way possible. He won’t be the humiliated one anymore—instead, it will be Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, and the airheaded, unprepared, useless ditz of a woman he was forced to make Vice President.

Free Hunter

Looming over the Biden family even now, of course, is the humiliating criminal prosecution of Hunter Biden. While the press was happy to cover up Hunter’s misdeeds in the 2020 race, by 2023 they flipped to letting him take the fall. If nothing else, the president’s son in court offered a paper-thin justification that the unprecedented criminal cases brought against Donald Trump were somehow “fair.”

Whatever its other repulsive contents were, the leaked messages on Hunter Biden’s laptop showed that Biden genuinely loves and cares for his son, however badly he has screwed up his life. Hunter repaid the favor by being one of his father’s few close confidants as his fellow Democrats maneuvered to force him out. Now, as Biden heads for an ignominous retirement, he faces the prospect that he may die while his only surviving son is in prison.

But contrary to a decade of Democrat shrieking about Trump being “vengeful,” the opposite is the case. Trump is magnanimous and prefers finding reasons to bury the hatchet. Just look at how he has turned former rivals like RFK Jr. and Ted Cruz into allies, just to take a couple prominent examples.

Donald Trump is the exact kind of person who might reward an unexpected gesture of unity from Joe Biden by commuting the sentence of Biden’s son—let the country move on from bitter criminal prosecutions of presidential candidates and their family members.

Endorsing Trump is the only way Biden goes out on his own terms.

Under the current trajectory, no matter what the outcome of the election is, Biden comes out looking like a big loser. If Kamala loses the vote two weeks from now, sure, she’ll take plenty of blame for her cringeworthy political ineptitude. But Biden will face just as much scorn, if not more. He’ll be the guy who wrecked the Democrats by having a brutally unpopular presidency, then ruining any chance at a real primary by hanging around too long and refusing to step aside.

Yet if Kamala somehow pulls off the win, things are no better for Old Joe. Kamala will get the credit. She will be the leader of a Democrat faction that made the tough-minded, cold-blooded decision to betray their feeble leader for the sake of stopping Donald Trump. In short, Kamala Harris will be the hero of the Democrats, and her most heroic deed will be taking down her old boss at the right moment.

But endorse Trump, and in one fell swoop the tone is completely different. Now, instead of feebly leaving office in embarrassed defeat, Biden is taking a parting shot at the people who disgraced him.

So much of Biden’s presidency has been about his lack of control over his own party. It’s well known in Washington circles that Biden didn’t even want Harris for his running mate. He dislikes her, and his wife really dislikes him. Biden actually wanted Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who, whatever else you might say about her, is much smarter and more capable than Kamala is. But alas, a drug-addled career criminal had to defraud a convenience store with a fake $20 and then die of a drug overdose, which somehow meant that Biden had to pick Kamala. Those were the rules.

Biden didn’t get to pick his vice president; he didn’t get to pick the causes his party believes in; and he didn’t get his wish to go down fighting.

Biden Can Redeem Himself—And Maybe His Party, Too

But this is about more than mere vengeance. A Trump endorsement by Biden is a chance for a more far-reaching redemption at the very end of Biden’s career.

Joe Biden is the distinguished author of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994. He opposed mandatory school busing in the 1970s and opposed gays in the military in the 1990s. But now, Biden is the symbolic face of the most liberal regime in American history.

In his staggering fifty-one years as a national politician, Biden has ever been a servant of the Democratic swamp. In the 70s, 80s, and 90s, that was a fair enough trade to make. But as Biden’s star rose over the past twenty years, serving the Democratic swamp required more and more of him. In his heart, Biden was and is a relatively old-fashioned New Deal Coalition Democrat. He wants to give the masses stuff (health care, welfare benefits, whatever) and be rewarded by getting to sit at the top of the pyramid. He doesn’t love crime and mayhem running rampant. He’s not a social revolutionary at heart. He’s not at war with God, and if he thinks abortion should at least be legal, he still doesn’t personally like it very much. He still likes America existing. At heart, he’s Scranton Joe, the man who feels more at ease meeting white union workers instead of getting a lecture on white privilege from an angry black woman.

But being a servant of the swamp means that Biden has played midwife to all the extremist trends on the American left.

For the past twenty years, Biden has played his part in a minstrel show: He’s the old straight Christian white guy medicine to help wash down the sludge of gay brown race communism. It’s the role he played for Barack Obama as his “safe” vice presidential pick; it’s the role he adopted in 2020 as the nominee at the heart of Floyd-a-palooza; and it’s the same role that Tim Walz is now playing in the Kamala Harris campaign right now (albeit far more pathetically).

Upon actually reaching the White House, it only got worse. Biden was stuck being the first president to announce his pronouns. He’s been stuck as the president who took the Democrats from “sympathetic toward illegal immigrants” to “total open borders, especially for criminal parasites.” He’s the white guy stuck holding the bag as the entire woke project implodes around him.

But Biden doesn’t have to end his career as the bagholder.

Imagine if Biden publicly admitted his party had gone astray—that it had become far too focused on racial grievance, identity politics, and waging war against the historic American nation—and that this was now undercutting all the reasons he originally became a Democrat. Imagine if Biden said America needed a border and he was tired of his own party making it impossible. Imagine if Biden said the Democrat Party was better 30 years ago.

Overnight, Biden’s role would change. He would be the man who ignited a centrist Democratic rebirth, rather than the confused old man watching confused as his party marches off a cliff.

Are we saying all this because we want Donald Trump to win? Well, yeah, duh. But don’t think there’s nothing in this for the Democrats. In fact, looking to the long term, nothing would be better for the Democratic Party than for Joe Biden to disavow its candidate this cycle.

So come on, Joe. You’ve already worn the hat.

Five years ago, Kamala Harris accused you of fighting to keep her out of white schools. Now, it’s time to keep her out of the White House.
