Let’s be real: the US regime spying on Americans is dangerous for many reasons. The US government is already wiretapping and monitoring its citizens under the guise of “protecting” us, but who’s really being protected here? The left and the Uniparty are all for expanding this anti-American surveillance, and that opens us up to even worse attacks, as this new story reveals. It’s bad enough when the government wants backdoors into everything, but it’s even worse when foreign hackers—like China—start piggybacking on our own dirty work. And that’s exactly what’s going on, according to a new report. China has gone in through the “wormholes” we created in order to do their own spying.

And just so you know, these hacks and breaches don’t happen in a vacuum. They’re layered, and the more we allow this surveillance state to grow, the more we invite malicious actors to dig deeper into our lives. And make no mistake—the left is ready to double down on it, leaving us exposed to even bigger threats. Who’s watching the watchers? Well, China is, and they’re not even trying to hide it.

TechCrunch:

News broke this weekend that China-backed hackers have compromised the wiretap systems of several U.S. telecom and internet providers, likely in an effort to gather intelligence on Americans.

The wiretap systems, as mandated under a 30-year-old U.S. federal law, are some of the most sensitive in a telecom or internet provider’s network, typically granting a select few employees nearly unfettered access to information about their customers, including their internet traffic and browsing histories.

But for the technologists who have for years sounded the alarm about the security risks of legally required backdoors, news of the compromises are the “told you so” moment they hoped would never come but knew one day would.

“I think it absolutely was inevitable,” Matt Blaze, a professor at Georgetown Law and expert on secure systems, told TechCrunch regarding the latest compromises of telecom and internet providers.

The Wall Street Journal first reported Friday that a Chinese government hacking group dubbed Salt Typhoon broke into three of the largest U.S. internet providers, including AT&T, Lumen (formerly CenturyLink), and Verizon, to access systems they use for facilitating customer data to law enforcement and governments. The hacks reportedly may have resulted in the “vast collection of internet traffic” from the telecom and internet giants. CNN and The Washington Post also confirmed the intrusions and that the U.S. government’s investigation is in its early stages.

Vulnu:

So, here’s the deal: We’ve got the U.S. government doing its thing, you know, keeping tabs on folks through these court-authorized wiretaps. It’s “for our own good,” they say. The same arguments come up when they say they need backdoors into all encryption. “Save the children!” they cry in order to absolutely decimate your privacy.

Then we ask who’s watching the watchers, right? Well turns out China is watching the watchers. AND THIS IS WHY WE DON’T LIKE BACKDOORS. – If there is a backdoor, there is no guarantee the “good guys” (quotes doing heavy lifting here) are the ones who use it.

Enter China, stage left… or more like stage dead center in your face, not even trying to hide it.

These government-sponsored hackers apparently thought, “Hey, why do all the hard work ourselves when we can just piggyback on what the U.S. is already doing?” It’s like they put a backdoor in the backdoor.

They’ve gained access to all this great pre-collected intel without having to lift a finger to spy on individual Americans themselves.
We’ve got the U.S. spying on its citizens (legally, they insist), and then China comes along and says, “Don’t mind us, we’ll just help ourselves to these wiretaps.”

This breach could have been going on for months before anyone noticed. It makes you think, there’s no way this is the only one like it, right?

Gee, this sounds like exactly what China probably did to Hillary’s computer when they likely hacked her “bathroom” server, right? Did China just tip their hand and show off their handy work? Wouldn’t surprise us one bit. And if you don’t think more censorship is coming down the pike, you’re not paying attention. The left isn’t even hiding their agenda anymore—they’re trotting out their biggest names in tyrannical censorship to spread the word.

And if that’s not enough, John Kerry, the “Ketchup King,” is taking it even further than ol’ Hilldog, by declaring that the First Amendment is standing in the left’s way. That pesky Constitution sure is causing some hurdles for the Marxist left.

But if you think that’s all, hold on—there’s more left-wing tyrants calling for censorship. And the list wouldn’t be complete without one of the most insufferable, censorship-crazed elites of them all: Bill Gates, who we all know likely has a lot of stuff to keep hidden.

It turns out that Apple was right about the dangerous potential of these Deep State backdoors hacking into all of our systems so they can spy on us all 24/7.

9to5Mac:

This is why Apple’s stand against the FBI was right

Apple famously refused the FBI’s request to create a backdoor into iPhones to help access devices used by shooters in San Bernardino and Pensacola. The FBI was subsequently successful in accessing all the iPhones concerned without the assistance it sought.

Our arguments against such backdoors predate both cases, when Apple spoke out on the issue in the wake of terrorist attacks in Paris more than a decade ago.

Apple is absolutely right to say that the moment you build in a backdoor for use by governments, it will only be a matter of time before hackers figure it out.

You cannot have an encryption system which is only a little bit insecure any more than you can be a little bit pregnant. Encryption systems are either secure or they’re not – and if they’re not then it’s a question of when, rather than if, others are able to exploit the vulnerability.

This latest case perfectly illustrates the point. The law required ISPs to create backdoors that could be used for wiretaps by US law enforcement, and hackers have now found and accessed them. Exactly the same would be true if Apple created backdoors into iPhones.

At the end of the day, the left’s obsession with censorship is a desperate attempt to cling to power as it slips through their fingers. They’re losing control, and they’ll use any tool at their disposal to get it back—even if it means trampling over our constitutional rights. Meanwhile, China is watching and taking full advantage of our own government’s attacks on private citizens, exploiting these backdoors to do their own dirty work. It’s a dark and twisted situation, one we must avoid at all costs by keeping these power-hungry elites far away from any semblance of control. If we don’t, we’re handing over our freedoms on a silver platter.
