A video clip from the disastrous DNC convention is going viral online. It’s a brief moment captured on film where Tim and his family are walking out on stage for their big moment, and Tim is seen “yanking” his son. Take a look:

Now, for what it’s worth, Tim’s 17-year-old son, Gus, has a series of challenges that he deals with, including ADHD and anxiety issues, among other things.

USA Today:

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris’ running mate, has spoken openly and lovingly about his 17-year-old son, Gus, who has ADHD, along with a nonverbal learning disorder and an anxiety disorder. Walz and his wife, Gwen, both former teachers, said recently in a statement to People magazine that they never considered Gus’ conditions an obstacle.

Caring for a special needs child can be a frustrating challenge for any parent. Many believe Tim’s frustration was on full display during that DNC moment when he appeared to yank his son for not walking fast enough. That’s how many perceived the situation. But is that the reality? It’s hard to say, because another side of the story suggests Tim was simply pulling his son out of the way to prevent him from walking into the teleprompter.

However, critics point out that the teleprompter doesn’t seem to be in Gus’s path.

“People are saying Tim Walz did this so Gus wouldn’t hit the teleprompter. The teleprompter is well ahead of these people and Gus was in no threat of hitting it. The only threat here is Tim towards Gus.”

However, supporters of Walz argue that the teleprompter was indeed in his way, and you can actually see his head move to the side.

“Walz was pulling his son out of the way of the teleprompter (notice that Gus bends his head to avoid it). His disability involves difficulty with spatial perception.”

But once again, many people strongly believe that Tim let the mask slip in that moment—this was simply a frustrated parent yanking their child, forgetting the cameras were rolling.

You’d like to think that Tim was just trying to redirect his child, but even so, a gentler touch would go a long way. However, it’s hard for a lot of people to think positively about Tim Walz, especially after the laundry list of lies that he’s told. He just doesn’t seem like a “good guy.” But chances are, we’ll never know what really happened on that stage. Let’s just hope young Gus is feeling at peace with the night’s festivities. That’s a lot for any teen to handle, let alone a “special needs” teen.
