An incredible theme park with almost no queues, despite seeing five million thrill-seekers visit every year has been dubbed “better than Disneyland”.
Even the biggest rides often only have tiny queues at PortAventura, in Salou, Spain, which attracts around one third of the visitors Disneyland Paris does. Some of the scariest roller-coasters in Europe can be found among the park’s five amazing themed zones but there are entertainments on officer for the whole family across the park.
The park will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year, with tourists from across the globe raving about their experiences there, The Express writes. One holidaymaker from Sydney, Australia, wrote on TripAdvisor: "For us, it was all about the rides, and we were not disappointed. We stayed at the Gold River Hotel and accessed the park quickly and easily.
“The queue times were very acceptable - the maximum wait time that we experienced was about 30 minutes - and well worth it, it's better than Disneyland." A second visitor, from County Durham, added: "This is much better than Disneyland Paris, the rides were super fun with short bearable queues (15-30 minutes). This park is well laid out and features many rides suited for all types of thrillseeker."
The Red Force roller coaster near the park entrance wows guests with top speeds of 180 kilometres per hour as they are flung 112 metres up into the air. It is the tallest roller coaster in the EU and also the fastest. The park is near Salou, in the beautiful Tarragona region of Spain, an area is well known for its lively bars and community of British expats. Quieter La Pineda or Cambrils are also close by with white sand beaches and fewer crowds for those who want a more relaxing holiday.
During the summer the park stays open until around midnight to allow guests the chance to enjoy themselves without the heat. The last hour of each day is dedicated to a parade and fireworks display, with characters dressing up and bringing the area to life. The theme park itself is split into five zones - Mediterranean, China, Mexico, the Wild West and Polynesia. As well as coasters and thrill rides you can also attend interactive shows from a cowboy stunt show to a fire-throwing display.
PortAventura theme park opened to the general public in May 1995, and is looking forwards to celebrating its 30th anniversary next year, with around five million visitors a year, compared to the 15 million that Disneyland Paris gets, it is possible to walk on to even the biggest rides without painfully long queues, depending on when you visit.
