An unhinged illegal migrant who serially assaults female nurses in the Bronx is on the lam

The New York Post reported that an unhinged man in the Bronx has made a habit of targeting female doctors and nurses in the area. He has assaulted four women over the past five years.

Edward Johnson, 57, is an illegal immigrant who is believed to have come from the Caribbean. Since he made it to the U.S., he has been arrested 23 times on charges that include gun possession. The report also mentions that he has another 42 arrests that have been sealed since he arrived in the country.

Now, Johnson is a fugitive from the law after he skipped out on his supervised release. And he has a habit of attacking female healthcare workers who try to treat him, per the report.

“Every time he goes to the hospital, he beats up a nurse or a doctor,” said an NYPD source.

Johnson has assaulted female healthcare workers on four separate occasions since 2019. He has assaulted victim Colleen Leahy two times, in July 2022 and in September 2023. The Post reported that Leahy has lost 20 pounds since the September attack, noting that she is filled with anxiety about his possible return.

“I’m afraid every day at work — every day,” Leahy said.

Leahy's mother, Eileen Leahy, said she fears that "my daughter will become the next Laken Riley." Riley was a Georgia nursing student who was allegedly killed by an illegal immigrant from Venezuela. The immigrant carried out the attack just six months after the authorities released him after a child-endangered arrest in Queens.

Riley's death has raised further questions about women's safety when outside running. The 22-year-old was killed while running on the University of Georgia campus. Riley is not the only female runner who has been killed while running. Eliza Fletcher was kidnapped and murdered almost two years ago while she was on a morning run around the University of Memphis, per USA Today.

Following Riley's death, many took to their keyboards to blame the young woman for why the man allegedly killed her. Some of the criticisms were: "She should have covered up"; "She should not have been running at that hour"; and "She should not have run by herself."

It is uncertain what the NYPD is doing to address Johnson's abusive behavior. While an arrest warrant was issued for his arrest last month, the authorities have not yet found the man.
