Want to know how Nikki Haley really feels about the America First movement and the middle class? Her latest remarks are a crystal-clear indicator. They’re so wildly ‘Bush-like’ it makes you wonder: did her words slip out by accident, or is she on a covert mission to snag the Democrat vote?

Immigration is front and center in the 2024 election, but not for the reasons some might think. It’s not about welcoming more illegals and treating them as legitimate “migrants.” The real issue here is the blatant disregard for our laws and the gaping holes in our border security. Picture this: hordes of military-aged men, reminiscent of a scene from ‘The Walking Dead,’ crossing our borders unchallenged and unchecked. That’s the stark reality we’re facing.

However, it’s not just Hispanic military-age men; it’s young Chinese men flooding over too.

So, what’s the logical move for a GOP 2014 candidate on this topic? Do they demand closing the borders and sending back the young men who are here for economic gains? Yes, that would be the logical “America First” move, but we’re talking about Nikki Haley here, and there’s nothing “America First” about her.

Instead of standing with the middle class, who are bearing the brunt of this surge in illegal immigration, Nikki, like an overbearing “mommy,” shames anyone daring to call these criminals “criminals.” Nikki thinks we should call migrants, who by definition committed a crime when they crossed the border illegally, and among whom there are many rapists, pimps, white slavers, and drug dealers, “loving families.” According to Nikki, acting exactly like a Democrat is the only way to beat a Democrat.

That’s real “winning” logic, eh?

Here we go again, rolling out the same old, tired “compassionate conservatism” song and dance routine, courtesy of Paul Ryan. It’s this kind of failed thinking that got us into the mess we’re in today, with the middle class watching their American dream turn to dust. Lower-income Americans are also suffering, thanks to our chaotic, out-of-control immigration, legal and illegal.

Both low- and high-skilled natives are affected by the influx of immigrants. But because a disproportionate percentage of immigrants have few skills, it is low-skilled American workers, including many blacks and Hispanics, who have suffered most from this wage dip. The monetary loss is sizable. The typical high school dropout earns about $25,000 annually. According to census data, immigrants admitted in the past two decades lacking a high school diploma have increased the size of the low-skilled workforce by roughly 25 percent. As a result, the earnings of this particularly vulnerable group dropped by between $800 and $1,500 each year.

We don’t need to rely on complex statistical calculations to see the harm being done to some workers. Simply look at how employers have reacted. A decade ago, Crider Inc., a chicken processing plant in Georgia, was raided by immigration agents, and 75 percent of its workforce vanished over a single weekend. Shortly after, Crider placed an ad in the local newspaper announcing job openings at higher wages. Similarly, the flood of recent news reports on abuse of the H-1B visa program shows that firms will quickly dismiss their current tech workforce when they find cheaper immigrant workers.

 

Now, enter Nikki Haley, who’s dusting off every failed policy from the past—all the ones we thought we’d left behind. Today’s voters have already made it clear they want nothing to do with these failed ideas, yet here she is, bringing them all back to the table—talk about a political disaster.
