Monday marked Martin Luther King Day. Unlike Pride Day, which is obsessively celebrated by corporations worldwide, most companies just treat MLK Day as a day off. However, the FBI tried to score some extra “woke” points by honoring Dr. King in a post on X. In hindsight, they might wish they’d stayed silent and simply taken the day off. The FBI received a brutal “community notes” message in response that might just be one of the most ironic—and greatest—of all time.

Here’s the MLK post the FBI published:

And right under that is a community notes message that reads:

The FBI engaged in surveillance of King, attempted to discredit him, and used manipulation tactics to influence him to stop organizing. King’s family believe the FBI was responsible for his death.

Whoops…

In all fairness, recent controversies surrounding MLK, partly sparked by the stunning documents released in 2019, have begun to change his narrative. Some now speculate that MLK was manipulated or convinced by the CIA to initiate a Marxist “color revolution” in the United States, leading to the Civil Rights era. Critics argue that this period has, in fact, been detrimental to numerous black Americans and was not designed to help them but as a control mechanism for the greater masses.

Charlie Kirk pledged to reveal the “real MLK” on his show. He certainly delivered the heat, featuring guest Vince Everett Ellison, who claims that Martin Luther King is actually to blame for what he describes as today’s “black welfare state.”

Mr. Everett Ellison also believes that MLK was a notorious womanizer who may have even encouraged rape.

Mr. Everett Ellison argues that MLK was not a hero or someone to be admired. Instead, he says that Dr. King was a liar and a fraud.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author David J. Garrow is the one who discovered the stunning documents on MLK in FBI files, casting a shadow over the once untarnished reputation of Dr. King.

Politico:

The most shocking claim Garrow relates is that King was present in a hotel room when a friend of his, Baltimore pastor Logan Kearse, raped a woman who resisted participating in unspecified sexual acts. The FBI agent who surveilled the room asserted that King “looked on, laughed and offered advice.” Other allegations include that King’s philandering—long known to be extensive—was even more rampant than historians knew; that King took part in group sex; that King may have fathered a child with one of his mistresses; and—less pruriently—that King continued taking money from his onetime ally Stanley Levison, a Communist Party member, even after he was supposed to have broken off ties.

Like many heroes set on impossibly high pedestals, Dr. King’s fall from grace began with a steep plunge, although his journey to the bottom seems long and daunting. Many believe the other documents in the MLK file will ultimately unveil more sordid details about the “real” Dr. King. They are expected to be released sometime in 2027. In the meantime, it might be smarter if the FBI kept quiet on MLK Day and just took the day off.
