Washington Post: "Are you a morning person? You may be a Neanderthal descendant."

An absolutely amazing example of how liberals need to compartmentalize to avoid wrongthink on race, and how little sense their worldview makes.

As the title implies, the article points to scientific evidence that Eurasian interbreeding with Neanderthals made certain individuals more likely to get up early in the morning.

But wait a minute!

Isn't this a racial difference? Something that Eurasians have that people in sub-Saharan Africa don't? Wouldn't this have serious implications for say, economic development, if some countries are composed of more "morning people" than other countries?

The Post matter of factly reports that the genes involved were selected for at higher latitudes. Surely, this can't be the only thing that was selected for. Why would you suspect that? So if you're acknowledging evolution favored the selection of one trait, why not many others? How could this possibly have no effect on social outcomes, like socio-economic status, crime rates, school achievement, etc?

No one is saying the media needs to assume these differences are genetic, rather the official line is that there is no way that inherent differences between populations have any social relevance. As they acknowledge, this can't possibly be right.

Every other page of the paper tells us that every racial difference that we see is explained by discrimination or white supremacy. But go to the science page, and they matter of factedly tell you that different races are in part *different species*, having incorporated new traits and propensities through interbreeding and natural selection.

How do they maintain all of this in their heads at the same time?Image

Check out the article for yourself, and tell me how it's consistent with every other thing you're suppose to believe about race to be a good person. washingtonpost.com/wellness/2023/…

People are missing the most important political story of the year.

It doesn't matter much if young people are turning against Israel.

Society is dominated by elites, and what is really going to reshape our politics is The Great Jewish Realignment.🧵richardhanania.com/p/the-great-je…
In analyzing political trends, people look at polls and say young people or the public or whatever are moving in a certain direction, and make predictions.

This is not completely useless, but the public will is thwarted by elites all the time. Especially on foreign policy. Image
What is there to know about American elites?

You probably know that they are disproprionately Jewish, but unless you spend time in the darker corners of the internet you have no idea just how Jewish.

Some people say that Israel should fight a less aggressive war to avoid creating more terrorists.

This view reflects a deep misunderstanding of the conflict and Palestinian society. If anything the opposite is more likely to be true.

Here's why🧵richardhanania.com/p/israel-must-…
There are three models you can have of Palestinian hate of Israelis

1. Linear: Oppression goes up, hatred increases
2. Logarithmic: Same as 1 but rises more slowly after a certain level
3. "Lose Hope": It is hope of victory that inspires them.

Which is likely to be true here?

Which model you adopt determines what you think a smart Israeli response to October 7 looks like. If you have a Linear Model, fighting an aggressive war is self-defeating. If you think Palestinian hatred can't get much worse, you might as well destroy their ability to make war.

Ethan Watters, Crazy Like Us is on how westerners exported our ideas about mental illness across the world.

Western psychiatry treats mental illness like physical illness, universal, but the human mind is influenced by memes. By talking about mental illnesses, you create them🧵

A girl died of an eating disorder in Hong Kong. In response, the government and media went around "raising awareness" about the disease and relying on western experts to understand it. As a result, one study showed a 25x increase in eating disorders.

After Sri Lanka was hit by a tsunami, western "trauma experts" came and told them to stop relying on their religious traditions and communities. The society dealt with a parent's passing by telling kids they moved away, westerners demanded they tell them their parents are dead.

Reminder that Nayib Bukele single handedly brought down the crime rate in #ElSalvador but instead of admitting it, the media made up a bunch of excuses: "it was going down anyway", "he made deals with the gangs," etc

Here's why that's all nonsense. richardhanania.com/p/the-invisibl…
"Vox complains that there aren’t enough public defenders in El Salvador to advocate on behalf of all the accused criminals. Should a country therefore let gangs roam free until it sets up a few more law schools and finds enough money in the budget to hire the new graduates?" Image
Yes it the muder rate was declining for a few years before Bukele took power. Note that should sometimes happen by chance! But going by recent history, it should've gone back up again. Bukele got the murder rate down to unthinkable levels. Image

Washington Post: "A trans woman joined a sorority. Then her new sisters turned on her."

They're portraying a 300+ pound man who wants to shower with women as being bullied by them.

How can you mock this? What joke could add to this article? washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/inter…

"How's it going, fellow sisters?" Image
My God, how tall is this person? They include these photos and don't realize what a laughingstock it makes it. The trans thing is an assault on the human senses, you join the cult you become unable to see or hear what's in front of you. Image

Whatever happened to American governance? The US used to pride itself on merit-based selection in federal hiring. Government wasn't always seen as the incompetent monstrosity it is today

🧵on how the war on incompetence was originally won, and how civil rights changed everything
Over the course of 19th century, government hiring was based on patronage. Whoever won elections would hire their supporters.

The reputation of the government was so low, it was said that in a congressional report that jobs went to only adventurers, incompetents, and scoundrels.

After President Garfield was killed by a disappointed office seeker in 1881, Congress finally had enough.

It passed the Civil Service Reform Act, which required competitive examinations in hiring and banned drunks from office. By 1900, it covered nearly half the gov workforce. Image
