‘Lord of War’ Sequel to Shoot in March 2024

December 3, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

I really liked Andrew Niccol’s “Lord of War,” which featured one of Nicolas Cage’s best performances.

In the 2005 film, Cage played an illegal arms dealer, inspired by the stories of several real-life arms dealers and smugglers, but, primarily, Viktor Bout. The film dealt head-on with the issue of illicit arms trafficking by the international arms industry. It was, and still is, an incredibly relevant story.

Well, it turns out we’re getting a sequel. Cage and Bill Skarsgård are set to star in “Lords of War”, the continuation to “Lord of War” and Niccol will be back to write and direct the crime thriller. Variety is reporting that a March shoot is set in Morocco, which roll masquerade as numerous different countries including Libya, Egypt, Senegal and Mali.

In this sequel, Orlov discovers he has a son, Anton (Skarsgård), who is trying to top his father’s wrongs rather than stop them as he launches a mercenary army to fight America’s Middle East conflicts.

We haven’t seen much of Niccol lately. He‘s best known for writing “The Truman Show” screenplay and directing the great “Gattaca.” His last film was 2018’s ill-received “Anon.”

These last ten years, Niccol has been struggling to find a good movie, his last few have been pretty bad: “In Time,” “The Host,” “Good Kill” all came and went without much buzz. Here’s hoping “Lords of War” puts him back on track.

Meanwhile, Cage keeps piling up the roles. On IMDB, he has 116 acting credits to his name. His 2024 releases will include three films: Lorcan Finnegan’s “The Surfer,” Osgood Perkins’ “Longlegs” and Benjamin Brewer’s “Arcadian.”
