Golden Globes Noms Led by ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’

December 11, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

The 2024 Golden Globes nominations have been announced. Does anybody care?

The upcoming ceremony is set to mark the beginning of a new era for the controversial awards show. Earlier this year, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was dissolved and acquired by Penske. So, all of the usual Penske-owned media outlets will be covering the living sh*t out of this useless awards body.

“Barbie” led the nominations with nine total. “Oppenheimer” followed with eight nods. “Poor Things” then nabbed seven. You can find all of the nominees on IndieWire (owned by Penske).

Notable snubs include “The Color Purple,” which couldn’t even crack the Best Comedy or Musical. It’s not in that category or Best Director or Best Song or Musical Score. The movie did get a Best Actress nomination for Fantasia and Supporting Actress for Danielle Brooks, however.

Other snubbed awards players include George Clooney’s “The Boys in the Boat,” Ava DuVernary’s “Origin” and Michael Mann’s “Ferrari.”

The nominations come 24 hours after a report revealed that the Globes are desperately looking for a host to emcee the ceremony. The likes of Chris Rock, Ali Wong, and Will Arnett have declined offers to host.

“It’s not worth it,” a top publicist told CNN. “There are a lot of politics. It’s not easy and it’s not fun anymore,” they added. “It’s a thankless job” another publicist chided.

As usual, the Motion Picture categories were split into Comedy and Drama. Ditto the acting awards for which — between Lead and Supporting — there are six categories.
