At this point, how conservatives purge RINOs is less important than ensuring they’re gone, even if it means they exit on their own accord. And that’s exactly what’s happening—another RINO taking his leave at twilight. This time, it’s Colorado’s Ken Buck, who believes 2020 was the fairest election in history, despite his earlier move to join 125 other Republicans in an amicus brief challenging the election’s results—a brief that the Supreme Court dismissed, citing Texas’s lack of standing to contest the outcome in another state. It all appears to have been a spectacle, and Ken knew it. After all, he was among those who voted to certify the 2020 election results, not aligning with the 147 House Republicans who objected. Well, now Ken has decided to pack up and leave what he deems the “insidious” Republican Party.
Good riddance to Ken Buck, a man who represented his own interests, not those of the good people from Colorado’s Fourth District.
U.S. Rep. Ken Buck, a conservative Republican who represents much of Colorado’s rural eastern plains, announced Wednesday he would not seek a sixth term in Congress, citing many in his party who refuse to accept the results of the 2020 presidential election and to condemn the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
In a video message posted online, Buck said voters’ hopes that Republicans will take decisive action may be in vain, and that his party’s “insidious narratives breed widespread cynicism and erode Americans’ confidence in the rule of law.”
“Too many Republican leaders are lying to America, claiming that the 2020 election was stolen, describing Jan. 6 as an unguided tour of the Capitol and asserting that the ensuing prosecutions are a weaponization of our justice system,” Buck said.
The 64-year-old former prosecutor, who has served in Congress since 2015, was one of the eight Republicans who joined with Democrats to oust House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in early October. Buck eventually threw his support behind Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana for speaker, despite Johnson’s own efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election through a legal challenge.
In addition, Buck didn’t win any MAGA supporters when he spouted regime-approved attacks against January 6 political prisoners.
In a 4-page letter Buck eviscerated the inane claims made by El Paso County Republican Party Vice Chairman Todd Watkins that the January 6th defendants have been grossly mistreated and abused by our legal system. Watkins’ letter refers to America as a “despotic, tyrannical, banana republic”. Buck’s detailed point-by-point response, correctly notes that Watkins’ letter “makes a number of factually incorrect claims, and then proceeds to overstate the threat to our Republic based on these false claims.”
Ken’s final downfall picked up a lot of speed when he refused to support a Biden impeachment, citing a lack of “evidence”—despite a mountain of evidence that makes Mt. Everest seem minuscule. That was the last straw, sparking a concerted effort to find a candidate who could beat Buck in a primary.
Ken Buck realized he was cornered, and rather than hold his ground, he did what RINOs do best—he retreated. Ultimately, this turn of events works in our favor. Now, our next task is to make sure that his seat doesn’t fall to another establishment stooge.
