About eight years ago, Twitter user Douglass Mackey posted an anti-Hillary meme. Fast forward to today, and he’s been convicted of so-called election “conspiracy” in a New York City courtroom and sentenced to seven months in federal prison. The public outrage is palpable. Among those most incensed by this egregious injustice is popular writer and podcaster Matt Walsh. If you’re unfamiliar with this critical First Amendment case, we highly recommend checking out Revolver’s write-up. This is arguably the most significant First Amendment case that’s flown under most people’s radar.
Mr. Mackey posted a satirical meme suggesting that Hillary’s supporters could “vote from home.” Although clearly a joke, the Biden administration’s DOJ chose to prosecute him. He was convicted of conspiracy to commit election interference and faced up to 10 years in prison. In the end, he got a seven-month federal sentence. In a serious country, Mr. Mackey would have never been charged, let alone convicted, for sharing a meme. And yet, here we are, in a North Korean-style hellhole. Matt Walsh didn’t waste any time voicing his concerns after the seven-month sentence was announced. He criticized the shameful, lackluster response from Republican lawmakers who’ve remained silent on this troubling case.
How many elected Republicans have said anything about the fact that the Biden Administration just sent a man to federal prison for posting memes making fun of Democrat voters?

Matt also pointed out that a radical left-wing activist engaged in actions far worse than anything Doug did and faced no consequences at all.
In 2016 @mskristinawong posted a tweet and video jokingly trying to trick Trump voters into not voting. Douglas Mackey did the exact same thing to Hillary voters. The DOJ just threw Mackey in prison. Wong was never charged with anything, and this tweet is still up. pic.twitter.com/8stqn0n1oS

Our supposed “justice” system is a farce under this authoritarian regime. Elon Musk himself couldn’t believe it.

In his outrage over what happened to Doug, Matt took the conversation to his podcast as well.
