Rachel Zegler Bashes 1937’s ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ as “Weird”

August 15, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

When it was greenlit a year ago, Disney's live-action remake of “Snow White” had a problem, after some backlash, the inclusive studio did not want to use “dwarfs” in the the live action remake due to it being politically incorrect.

We’ve already tackled how Disney decided to deep-six the seven dwarfs in favor of “seven magical (and inclusive) creatures”. This led to the upcoming film being mocked on social media, and for good reason, especially after goofy on-set photos leaked online.

Co-written by Barbie's Greta Gerwig, the upcoming adaptation will not feature a Prince Charming either and will instead focus on a “stronger” Snow White who dreams of becoming a leader. Rachel Zegler will star as Snow White.

Now, a resurfaced interview with Zegler appears to have caused quite the reaction. In it, the actress bashes the 1937 film's "love story." The clip went viral on social media, after garnering millions of views on Tik Tok over the weekend.

Zegler was promoting the film at the annual D23 Expo, the actress remarked on the differences between the animated classic and the live-action remake:

I mean, you know, the original cartoon came out in 1937 and very evidently so. There’s a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird! Weird. So we didn’t do that this time.

Zegler doesn't give a shit about the original and actively dislikes it, calling it “weird” and “creepy.” She keeps talking about this latest “Snow White” as if its some kind of purity test. Here she is, just last year, tackling the vision behind this remake:

People are making these jokes about ours being the PC Snow White... yeah, it is - because it needed that. Our version is a refreshing story about a young woman who has a function beyond Someday My Prince Will Come.

There is no level of artistic integrity involved in this latest Disney live action remake. The world isn’t upset with the 1937 original (which is a masterpiece) and there is absolutely nobody clamoring for it to be fixed. This is another blatant attempt by Disney to make more money and sell merchandise.

What Disney is doing here is destroying the original story. They continue to commit slow and painful suicide to their brand. I mean, honestly, who thought it was a good idea to remake this movie?

Dont get me wrong, if Disney wants to change the elements and themes of the original, then why not just make something else. Invent a new story and don’t pretend that this is a remake of the original.
