‘Disgusted’ wife of accused Gilgo Beach killer Rex Heuermann files for divorce less than a week after his arrest

The wife of suspected Long Island serial killer Rex Heuermann filed for divorce Wednesday — the same day new photos of her surfaced.

Asa Ellerup, 59, the accused killer’s “shocked” and “disgusted” wife, filed a matrimonial complaint in Suffolk County Supreme Court against her embattled husband of more than 20 years, online court records show.

Under New York state law, all filings in divorce proceedings are sealed from public scrutiny, but the cases and parties’ names are docketed and posted.

Asa Ellerup v. Rex Heuermann is listed as an “uncontested” matrimonial filing dated Wednesday, with a complaint, summons and “notice concerning continuation of health care coverage” filed and processed — although they are not made public.

The filing was first made public on Twitter by Daily Beast reporter Pilar Melendez on Wednesday evening.

Ellerup and the couple’s daughter, Victoria Heuermann, 26, were seen earlier this week, according to photos taken by Fox News Digital that surfaced Wednesday, not long after she filed the paperwork.

The suspected killer’s estranged wife wore a green knit outfit and walked with a cane in photos reportedly taken on Monday as she and her daughter crossed a street. Victoria wore a long, sea foam-colored skirt and a black-and-white sweater with a chevron-like pattern. 

An unidentified man in a gray shirt and pants was spotted with them carrying a case of A&W root beer.

The mother-daughter duo was captured again Tuesday in a Best Buy parking lot. Ellerup appeared to be wearing the same green-on-green duds, while Victoria also wore the same skirt with an oversize burgundy sweater.

The same man was spotted between the two women in one of the photos, wearing a gray T-shirt and dark blue pants. It is unclear if he is Heuermann’s special-needs stepson.

Police said this week that Heuermann’s family was beyond stunned when he was nabbed outside his office and charged in the gristly, 13-year-old slayings.

“When we initially informed them about their husband, their father, they were shocked,” Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison said Monday.

“They were disgusted — they were embarrassed.”

Ellerup, Heuermann’s second wife, lived in the Massapequa Park home that the accused killer grew up in and that he bought from his mother in 1994 — the same year he founded his Manhattan architecture firm.

The couple lived with Heuermann’s special-needs stepson and their daughter, Victoria, who worked as a receptionist at her dad’s company, RH Consultants and Associates on Fifth Avenue.

A suspected serial killer has been arrested over the notorious Gilgo Beach murders in Long Island, The Post can confirm.

Rex Heuermann, 59, a married dad of two and architect at a New York City firm, has a home on 1st Avenue in Massapequa Park, sources told The Post.

His arrest is tied to the “Gilgo Four,” four women — Melissa Barthelemy, 24, Megan Waterman, 22, Amber Lynn Costello, 27, and Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25 — found wrapped in burlap within days of each other in 2010. 

The body of Barthelemy was first found along Ocean Parkway on Dec. 11, 2010, sparking fears of a serial killer in the area.

By spring 2011, the number of bodies had climbed to 10, including eight women as well as an unidentified man and toddler.

Heuermann’s arrest comes after Suffolk County’s new police commissioner created a special Gilgo Beach Homicide Investigation Task Force in February 2022.

Ellerup, who is from Iceland, had been in hiding since her husband was arrested last week and charged with three counts of murder in the slayings of three women whose bodies were found dumped in a marshy stretch of Gilgo Beach in 2010: Amber Lynn Costello, 27, Melissa Barthelemy, 24, and Megan Waterman, 22.

Authorities said the hulking accused killer frequently took to Craigslist and other sites to solicit prostitutes, including at least one of the Gilgo Beach victims, who disappeared after an alleged rendezvous in 2010.

Heuermann is also the prime suspect in the death of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25, whose remains were also found.

His lawyer, Michael Brown, said in a statement last week that the pair had been together for 25 years.
