Wes Anderson’s ‘Henry Sugar’ Will Tackle Four “Dark and Twisted” Roald Dahl Short Stories

May 31, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

Wes Anderson’s been a busy man. His latest film, “Asteroid City,” just premiered at Cannes and is set to be released in a little over two weeks. However, he’s already set his sights in releasing another film in 2023.

Now we have actor Rupert Friend giving us some more details about that film, titled “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar”:

“It could change, but when we made it, there were four stories drawn from a Roald Dahl [short story collection], which are his slightly darker, twisted ones that he wrote for adults. Wes took four of them and put together a smaller troupe of actors: myself, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Kingsley, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dev Patel, and Richard Ayoade. We each play in around two of the stories and kind of change roles. I think Ralph might be in all of them. My two are “The Ratcatcher” and “The Swan.”

Last December, I exclusively reported that Anderson’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,” starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Kingsley, Dev Patel, would be released via Netflix this fall.

This one won’t be done in stop motion animation, although it will have some animated sequences. Production on ‘Henry Sugar’ ended early last year.

‘Henry Sugar’ deals with a variety of stories, but the main one follows Henry Sugar, who is able to see through objects and predict the future with the help of a book he stole.

As mentioned, expect this one to drop on Netflix in November or December. Maybe it could even premiere at Venice …
