There was a horrific accident on the I-95 in Philadelphia over the weekend that caused a huge chunk of the overpass bridge to collapse. One person was killed.
A segment of I-95 collapsed in Northeast Philadelphia after a driver lost control of a tanker truck that caught fire beneath an overpass at the Cottman Avenue exit.
Anyone who drives the route will need to seek alternatives, as repairs are expected to take “months,” according to Gov. Josh Shapiro, who toured the aftermath Sunday afternoon. Hundreds of thousands of commuters are likely to be impacted, as are delivery vehicles. This stretch is one of the busiest highways in the nation.
It all started around 6:20 a.m. Sunday morning, when reports came in of a vehicle fire, Shapiro said.
On Monday, investigators discovered remains of the truck driver, identified by his family as Nathaniel Moody.
It’s a miracle that more people were not hurt or killed.

As of now, the Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that I-95 remains closed in both directions. Democrat Governor Josh Shapiro says repairs will take “months,” causing outrage throughout the cities, as commuters grapple over how they’ll get to work. Meanwhile, after Hurricane Ian tore through Florida and destroyed the Pine Island Bridge, Governor DeSantis had that entire bridge rebuilt, and up and running in a matter of days.
Why can’t a Democrat governor do the same?

One reason a Democrat Governor may struggle to achieve similar results is that they are heavily focused on both placating unions and bureaucracies as well as the “woke agendas” and are unable to fulfill the fundamental responsibilities of the job, such as maintaining roads, bridges, water systems, and ensuring public safety.

He said the collapse will have major economic impacts along the East Coast, as the damaged segment carries 160,000 vehicles daily – with 8% of those being trucks.
“There’s no question in my mind that all of the resources that PennDOT needs federally will be available. We’ve already made clear that they’re available ever since the governor’s disaster declaration made it possible,” Buttigieg said.
Biden is supposed to be the infrastructure guy, but he and his administration seem unable to provide sufficient federal assistance to expedite this project. It sounds like another failure on Biden’s part. Maybe Mayor Pete should reach out to Governor DeSantis and learn a thing or two about fast bridge repairs.
