Many conservatives were outraged over the twenty Republicans who sided with Democrats and voted against censoring disgraced liar Adam Schiff for his shameful starring role in the Russia Hoax, which divided the nation and falsely convinced millions of gullible Americans that President Trump was a “puppet” of Putin. One of those people who voted “no” was Freedom Caucus member Thomas Massie. This move shocked a lot of people, and many lashed out at Massie, but his vote shouldn’t come as a shock, he’s been very clear from the get-go that he would vote no on the resolution for one very big reason: Massie believes it’s unconstitutional to force Schiff to pay a $16 million dollar fine for spreading lies. Massie claims a fine like that would violate the 27th and 8th amendments.
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) said he will not support a House resolution to fine Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) for his involvement in the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
The resolution, introduced by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), seeks to censure Schiff and force him to pay a $16 million fine over allegations that he abused his constituents’ trust by pushing claims that Russia had meddled in the 2016 presidential race to help elect Donald Trump. At the time, Schiff was leading the House Intelligence Committee.
Massie said, however, that he will not vote in favor of the bill should it come to the House floor, claiming it would violate the Constitution.
“Adam Schiff acted unethically but if a resolution to fine him $16 million comes to the floor I will vote to table it. (vote against it),” Massie tweeted on Wednesday. “In fact, I’m still litigating a federal lawsuit against Pelosi over a salary reduction she imposed on me for my refusal to wear a mask.”
Massie continued, “The Constitution says the House may make its own rules but we can’t violate other (later) provisions of the Constitution. A $16 million fine is a violation of the 27th and 8th amendments.”

Nevertheless, tempers flared. Many conservatives saw this as yet another instance of self-righteous Republicans adopting the “invisible” high ground for their own self-interest, while the left continues to trample over us and destroy the country. Many on the right are understandably tired of the ongoing justifications for all these losses, regardless of the s0-called moral superiority behind them. The frustration is real, and it’s understandable. However, Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has faced her own fair share of criticism recently due to her support of Speaker McCarthy, is now defending Congressman Massie. She took to Twitter with an epic thread to provide further explanation for Massie’s voting, which centers around a very important lawsuit involving Nancy Pelosi.
Here’s what Marjorie said in her tweet thread:
One of my all time favorite stories is when @RepThomasMassie was the only Member of Congress that stood against the entire weight of Washington to try to stop the CARES ACT from passing and was the lone voice trying to remind everyone the Constitution still stands.
In March 2020 as COVID spread, during a time of mass confusion, misinformation, rational fear for some yet irrational fear for most, Massie courageously went to Washington and demanded a vote on a historic bill. It was the right thing to do and everyone attacked him for it. He was threatened with primaries and many other things, but he never wavered in his determination to defend the Constitution even when most of the country was yelling at him. I was cheering for him from Georgia bc I was not yet elected, was adamantly opposed to the shutdowns, and was grateful that one Congressman had the courage to stand for what was right. And history proved him right.
This week we voted on a censure resolution for Adam Schiff that carried a $16 million dollar fine against the number one Russia hoaxer. Schiff abused his power, knowingly lied to the American people about President Trump, and never produced the evidence he claimed he had. I voted NO to the Democrat’s motion to table the resolution because I believed America deserves to hear the debate that would have followed and exposed the facts about Adam Schiff’s lies. And I look forward to voting on Anna Paulina Luna’s next censure resolution.
But some voted to table. Thomas Massie, Ralph Norman and myself have a lawsuit against Nancy Pelosi because she unconstitutionally fined us for not wearing masks on the House floor in 2021. During this week’s fever pitch of internet pitch forks, everyone forgot that we were the few who refused to wear useless masks that did nothing to stop the spread of COVID and were fined $500 on the first offense and then $2,500 every time we stepped on the House floor without a mask. We believed in standing up to tyranny in Congress was important so that others could do it at home especially children who were forced to mask for absolutely no reason.
Last Congress, when Democrats held the majority, under Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s direction, they passed this rule: House Resolution 38 § 4(a)(1) reads as follows: “the Sergeant-at-Arms is authorized and directed to impose a fine against a Member, Delegate, or the Resident Commissioner for the failure to wear a mask in contravention of the Speaker’s announced policies of January 4, 2021.” And they were able to pass it because they were in the majority, like we are now. But the 27th Amendment states: “No law varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened.” And proves Nancy Pelosi’s fines were unconstitutional. Those of us who served last congress know what Democrats are capable of, how badly they will abuse power, and fully expect them to do it again if they ever regain power.
The 27th Amendment is why we are suing Nancy Pelosi for unconstitutionally fining us for not wearing masks. And the 27th amendment of the Constitution is also why Massie voted to table the motion. No matter how people feel about an issue, whether they feel the constitution should be suspended during a China virus scare or whether they feel the constitution should be suspended to fine members of congress for not obeying the Speaker’s tyrannical mask rules or whether they feel the constitution should be suspended to punish one of the worst liars in Congress, it’s not about people’s feelings because we should never suspend or violate the constitution. And those that refuse to bend to pressure campaigns but instead stand in the face of pressure to protect and uphold the constitution are exactly the type of Congressman we need during these tumultuous times.
I was talking with my friend @RepMattGaetz about this today. And both of us agree that @RepThomasMassie is undeserving of the internet pitch forks that are built on the uninformed or misinformed foundations of pressure campaigns. And just because you occasionally but rarely see us on opposite sides of a vote, never make the mistake of believing we aren’t on the same team just because we vote differently maybe 1% of the time. By the way, in case you were blinded by the internet torches being carried by those with their internet pitch forks and didn’t know what other votes we took, we passed the resolution to overturn Biden and the ATF’s rule against pistol braces, which was a major win for our razor thin majority. We also protected gas stoves, thank goodness! Who ever thought we would have to vote to protect such a wonderful appliance to cook on or that Democrats would try to destroy fossil fuels? But here we are. And we also passed many more good bills and had more great hearings to expose the failures of the America Last Biden regime. We will be back at it next week.

Marjorie laid out the facts, and many people appreciated that.
“Thank you for clearing that up.”
“I think the original measure overreached by stipulating a $16M fine… it would have likely been a slam dunk otherwise. We’ll see…”
However, the majority of the comments in the thread expressed extreme frustration and exasperation with the right’s “noble” causes.
“He deserves everything he’s getting. We’ve had it with the Republican cowards. We’re tired of the excuses and self- righteous soapbox reasons of why they stabbed us in the back once again.”
“The left wouldn’t hesitate to charge $16M in mask fines if it made sense. Why don’t Republicans get this? $16M is nothing. Schiff belongs in jail.”
Time will tell if this move from Republicans will help or hurt the cause moving forward. However, watching Adam Schiff escape unharmed is a bitter pill to swallow, especially after watching Biden’s DOJ arrest President Trump —a totally unjust, morally reprehensible, and un-American move by the regime. Conservatives are understandably angry and frustrated. Nonetheless, it is important to remember that Congressman Massie is a principled politician who brings tremendous value to our side. Nobody is fighting harder to get to the truth about what really happened on January 6th than he is.
