The state of Montana just banned TikTok.
It is now illegal to download the app there. Any platform that allows access to TikTok or ability to download it will have to pay a fine of $10,000 per DAY.

I have many good NatSec friends who will disagree with me, but I see this as a dark day in history of the Internet.
The big winner here is Google/YouTube, who surely lobbied like hell to kill its competition.

Well guess what? Montana just made “freedom martyrs” out of every 16 y/o punished for trying to fit in w/ their friends in NYC & LA.

Today it’s Montana, but within a year it will likely be a 10-20 state coalition.

Like it or not, every EU diplo I spoke w/ at State knew the Snowden reveals. None had illusions of US not having same backdoor.

There has got to be a better way than a ban. Especially at the state level, and especially red states.
If 10-20 red states follow Montana, this is going to make young people, influencers, and youth culture plunge into blue states even more.
It will be like Florida during Covid.
