Kate Winslet used her “Hollywood” soapbox in London during the recent BAFTA Awards. The Titanic actress tearfully begged the British Government (and everyone in power) to impose stronger draconian censorship of free speech upon innocent citizens.

A tearful Kate Winslet used her Bafta acceptance speech to call for action on social media companies on Sunday night, saying: “We want our children back”.

The Oscar-winner called for “people in power” to “criminalise harmful content” as she picked up the leading actress gong at the TV awards.

Actors and actresses often believe that by immersing themselves in a role portraying someone grappling with a particular issue for a few weeks, they have some unwarranted authority on the subject, granting them the right to lecture the rest of us on what actions should be taken and what rights we must give up without question in the name of “safety.”

The 47-year-old starred alongside her daughter Mia Threapleton in I Am Ruth which chronicles the relationship between a mother and child who is dealing with mental health pressures coming from the online world.

She told the ceremony: “I Am Ruth was made for parents and their children, for families who feel that they are held hostage by the perils of the online world, for parents who wish they could still communicate with their teenagers, but who no longer can.

Kate wants to send whatever morsel of free speech is still left in the UK hurling to the bottom of the ocean with poor Jack.

“Please eradicate harmful content, we don’t want it. We want our children back.

“We don’t want to lie awake, terrified by our children’s mental health.

“And to any young person who might be listening, who feels that they are trapped in an unhealthy world: Please ask for help. There is no shame in admitting that you need support. It will be there just ask for it.”

The timing of Kate’s comments are rather suspect, since the House of Lords is currently debating the “Online Safety Bill” that aims to rip away even more rights from the average Brit under the guise of “help” and “safety.” Was this all part of a broader political stunt?

The UK is already suffering the consequences of dystopian online speech laws, resulting in innocent people being arrested for merely expressing their views and feelings in a non-violent manner. That’s what happened to one elderly British vet when he dared to criticize the LGBTQ+ movement.

We don’t care if you risked life and limb for your country, off to the gulag you go, sir!

Shocking cell phone video purportedly shows a police officer in the United Kingdom explaining how an army veteran was arrested over an anti-LGBTQ post he reshared online that had caused someone “anxiety.”

Officials don’t appear particularly concerned about violent and threatening behavior — their focus is on “hate speech” and typing stuff that offends the protected rainbow class.

The number of people being arrested for “online crimes of speech” have increased dramatically in London.

While arrests for aggressive, threatening or hateful speech on social media declined between 2010 and 2013, the numbers rose last year.

According to the Register, a total of 2,500 Londoners have been arrested over the past five years for allegedly sending “offensive” messages via social media. In 2015, 857 people were detained, up 37 per cent increase since 2010.

If your post causes some random stranger “anxiety,” you could be sent to prison for 6 months and pay hefty fines. Surprisingly, Kate Winslet not only supports this, but wants more of it. She’s so passionate about censorship that it brings her to tears.

The Communications Act 2003 defines illegal communication as “using public electronic communications network in order to cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety”. Breaking the law carries a six-month prison term or fine of up to £5,000.

As we observe this free speech situation unravel in the UK, some Americans might still think that it could never happen in the USA. But the truth is, we’re actually much closer to this dystopian nightmare than many of you might realize. Stay vigilant.
