Despite all the evil forces working against him, President Trump appears to be having the time of his life—and he’s surging in the polls, to boot.
Trump is now lapping his closest rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, by a whopping 26 points. DeSantis, who is expected to announce his presidential bid sometime in July, is facing bad polling numbers and nervous donors.
While DeSantis squirms, Trump is basking in the glow of tremendous primary support.
A new Yahoo News/YouGov poll — one of the first conducted after former President Donald Trump was indicted Thursday for his role in paying hush money to a porn star — shows Trump surging to his largest-ever lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, his likely 2024 GOP primary challenger, as Republican voters rally around the only president in U.S. history to face criminal charges.
In the previous Yahoo News/YouGov survey, which was conducted less than two weeks ago, Trump (47%) led DeSantis (39%) by eight percentage points in a head-to-head matchup among registered voters who are Republicans or Republican-leaning independents. As recently as February, it was DeSantis who was narrowly ahead of Trump, 45% to 41%.
But the new, post-indictment poll suddenly finds Trump lapping DeSantis by 26 percentage points — 57% to 31% — in a one-on-one contest. The former president even attracts majority support (52%, up from 44% previously) when pitted against a wider, 10-candidate field of declared and potential GOP challengers, while DeSantis plummets to 21% (down from 28%).
Responding to Trump’s massive support, a wave of Florida politicians are now flocking to endorse him. Greg Steube is one of latest of 10 Florida representatives to throw his hat in the ring for 45—it’s hard to keep up.
Today I continue my unwavering support for the America First movement by endorsing the leader of our party, President Donald Trump for re-election to President of the United States! ?? pic.twitter.com/CTSStEpmZr

Greg is the 6th Florida politician to come out in support of Trump, if we are counting correctly.
He follows U.S. Reps. Byron Donalds, Matt Gaetz, Anna Paulina Luna and Cory Mills in formally endorsing Trump for the GOP nomination.
Unlike those colleagues, Steube announced his support after DeSantis started calling members of the delegation asking them not to announce Trump endorsements, according to reporting by NBC News’ Matt Dixon.
Florida currently boasts 20 Republican U.S. Representatives in the state’s 28-member U.S. House delegation. At this point, a quarter of those have publicly come out for Trump. None have endorsed DeSantis, who hasn’t officially entered the race but who remains the only Republican polling anywhere close to Trump.
Steube had a pretty unambiguous message for DeSantis, the governor of his state:
Governor DeSantis just recently got elected. He hasn’t even been re-elected for six months. I would hope that he would continue to concentrate on the great job he is doing in the state of Florida,” Rep. Steube said. “I hear from constituents all the time that want him to finish out his term.
Congressman Steube’s constituents aren’t alone. Daniel McCarthy recently made the case in the Spectator for DeSantis waiting till 2028 to run:
For Machiavelli, Fortune is everything outside of man’s power. Virtù is man’s power. The terms are complementary and comprehensive. And while Machiavelli understands Fortune very well, his confidence ultimately reposes in virtù. Any flood can be controlled by the man who is prepared. Youthful initiative is indispensable, but only as part of a strategic design. And DeSantis at forty-nine would still be younger than most presidents.
The Prince is infamous for teaching that it is better to be feared than loved. Yet both are good, says Machiavelli. What’s bad is to be hated or held in contempt. Trump destroys his rivals by making them contemptible in voters’ eyes. Trump himself, of course, is hated, contemned, feared and loved. But Trump, if he’s not Fortune personified, is inseparable from her. His virtù consists entirely in his lovemaking with fate. He is Byronic, not Machiavellian.
In the wake of Trump’s commanding poll numbers and support, and recent flops demonstrating DeSantis’ lack of mature political instincts (for instance his clumsy response to Trump’s indictment), many are coming around the view that DeSantis would be wise to sit this race out and add upon his already excellent resume as Governor.
Meanwhile, President Trump is having a good time today on Truth Social, posting this rather amusing video of Joe Biden as a “James Bond” character who’s licensed to FAIL.
Hilarious.

Gotta love it. Trump is still the undisputed KING of trolls and endorsements.
