Super Mario Bros. Movie tops $600M worldwide as it becomes biggest film of 2023 after just two weeks in theaters
Super Mario Bros. Movie proved a box office juggernaut as it scored the best second weekend ever for an animated movie in North American theaters.
The Universal film based on the classic Nintendo game pulled in another $87 million between Friday and Sunday, according to studio estimates.
It follows it's record-breaking debut when it grossed $377M globally on the opening weekend.
Super Mario's worldwide gross currently stands at $678 million as fans make return trips to the cinema to see the movie again.
'There are not enough adjectives to describe the enormity of this box office performance,' said Paul Dergarabedian, the senior media analyst for Comsore.

The Pope's Exorcist starring Russell Crowe opened in second place with an estimated $9.2 million.
The horror drama is based on the life of Father Gabriele Amorth, the chief exorcist of the Diocese of Rome from 1986 to his death at 91 in 2016.
John Wick 4 claimed third place with $7.9 million in its fourth week of release and has now made more than $160.1 million domestically.
The new Nicolas Cage vehicle Renfield, co-starring Nicholas Hoult, made $7.8 million to come in at number four in the box office top 10.

Ben Affleck´s Air Jordan origin story Air rounded out the top five,with $7.7 million in its second weekend to bring its total domestic earnings to $33.3 million.
The R-rated mind-bender Beau is Afraid starring Joaquin Phoenix was released in four theaters this past weekend where it made a respectable showing. It goes into wide release this coming Friday.
The box office top 10 rounds out with Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves in sixth place followed by Suzume, Mafia Mamma, Scream VI and Nefarious.
