Eric Greitens is back.

Five years ago, Greitens was a rising star of the Trump era. He had a glittering academic resume: Summa cum laude from Duke, a Rhodes Scholarship (back when that wasn’t a sick joke), and an Oxford Ph.D. He was a Navy SEAL who served four overseas deployments and received a Purple Heart. He founded The Mission Continues, a veterans non-profit that is still active and has a near-perfect rating on Charity Navigator. He wrote three books, including The Heart and the Fist, a bestselling memoir. In 2015, Greitens switched from the Democratic Party of his upbringing to the GOP, and in 2016 he was swept into the Missouri governor’s office on the same tide that brought America President Trump.

Greitens was, and is, a great American. But no level of heroism would be enough to keep the left at bay. In 2018, Missouri Democrats used a prior personal issue, which Greitens had fully owned up to, to conjure up completely bogus criminal charges. They then hounded him relentlessly until they drove him from office, leaving his career and reputation for dead.

But Greitens didn’t give in to the cancellation machine. The criminal case against him was a sham, one of the worst political frauds in American history. An exhaustive ethics review cleared Greitens of all wrongdoing. A key investigator in the case was initially charged with perjury, and in March pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of tampering with evidence. Kim Gardner, the same repugnant prosecutor who persecuted the McCloskeys for defending their home, may be disbarred for her conduct.

Now, Greitens is reclaiming the status that his enemies stole from him through lies, malice, and criminal behavior. He’s running to replace the retiring Roy Blunt in the U.S. Senate in 2022. And despite half a decade of radical left efforts to destroy him, Greitens is the favorite, polling at the top of the pack with the primary just a month and a half away. More than any candidate in 2022, Greitens represents the political lessons of the Trump era: Don’t apologize where you did nothing wrong, don’t let liars and hypocrites on the left set the standards for acceptable behavior, and never, ever give up.

Greitens generously agreed to join Revolver for an interview.

Congratulations for making WaPo and the New York Times so angry with your new RINO Hunting ad. How much free media did you get thanks to that? 

The ad did exactly what we intended. We had our biggest social media week, our biggest grassroots fundraising week, and completely packed grassroots events across Missouri. The mainstream media was upset. The RINO establishment was upset. And lunatic liberals were upset. I’ve always said that we have all the right enemies. These are the same people that worked against President Trump from 2015 until now.

The Texas Republican Party recently approved a resolution labeling Joe Biden the “acting president” and declaring his supposed 2020 victory to be illegitimate. Do you think the national party should take the same path? If so, is this just an act of protest or does it mean something more?

Patriots across America know that Joe Biden is illegitimate. The people of Missouri know Joe Biden is illegitimate. The facts are—the election was stolen and weak RINOs teamed up with Democrats to oppose President Trump. President Trump is still the leader of our party, and the quicker everyone in the party realizes that, we can focus on the Trump wave in November 2022. The Texas GOP set a standard from the rest of the country and showed that patriots who stand up together are able to do powerful things.

You joined the military just before 9/11. You’ve served all over the world. What’s your take on the current politicization of the armed forces? What needs to be done to stop the U.S. military from rotting to the core?

It was an honor of a lifetime to join the United States Navy in 2001 and serve as a Navy SEAL. I was deployed four times during the Global War on Terrorism to Afghanistan, Southeast Asia, the Horn of Africa, and Iraq, and I was honored to receive the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. It is disheartening to see how our military men and women have been subjected to this woke culture that is weakening our military and putting our national security at risk. Leadership starts at the top, and General Milley represents what is wrong. We need President Trump to be our commander in chief once again. In just four years, he defeated ISIS and killed Qasem Soleimani. Nobody dared to test the United States because they knew of the wrath they would incur from President Trump.

Most American nationalists are familiar with the sham of Russiagate, the lies about Ukraine, about FBI surveillance, and so forth. But many of them may not be familiar with the worst details of your case. Can you tell us more about the plot to drive you from office? Who was involved, and is there anybody who you think hasn’t been held suitably accountable for what happened?

Let’s also add the January 6th sham committee to the list of their conspiracy theories, which fell apart completely after their star witness was found to be a liar. When Black Lives Matter and Antifa came to Missouri, we defeated them, and we showed George Soros, and we showed the left that they could be defeated. And what we now know is that right after, that George Soros-funded prosecutor you just mentioned, Kim Gardner, hired a corrupt former FBI agent to build a false case against me. I was absolutely fighting for the truth, but in typical RINO fashion the establishment teamed up with Democrats to undermine the will of the people. And these are the same forces today who are absolutely terrified of an America First candidate like myself who is leading by a wide margin according to independent poll numbers.

St. Louis prosecutor Kim Gardner is accused of hiding evidence from your attorneys in order to further the unjust case against you. She also brought charges against the McCloskeys. Meanwhile, St. Louis judges keep dismissing murder charges because Gardner’s prosecutors are missing hearings or failing to provide required documents. What does this say about the nature of the modern Democratic Party?

The Democrat party is the party of more crime, more drugs, more illegal immigration, and more misery. Kim Gardner, a Soros funded prosecutor, is the epitome of the corruption of our system and willingness to tear down the lives of innocent people. I stood up for the truth and for justice. And we won. It shows that when we stand up to the enemy, the truth will always prevail.

You’ve suggested that Republicans may have been involved in the effort to displace you, because they were bitter you canceled Missouri’s Low-Income Housing tax credit, which gave a lot of money to wealthy developers and their lobbyists. What does this say about the modern Republican Party? How do we go about creating a GOP worthy of its own voters?

As governor, I signed an executive order that banned gifts from lobbyists to executive branch state employees for the first time in Missouri history. I made a promise to the people of Missouri that we were going to clean up the culture of corruption in Jefferson City. And the RINO’s and establishment didn’t like that. They loved feeding at the trough.

When I was governor, my only thought was “how to I serve the people of this state honorably.” As U.S. Senator, I will bring that same mindset and work to better the lives of everyone in this state. America First means Americans First. And Americans are struggling right now under Joe Biden.

Two years ago, you said that resigning was “the right decision at the time for the people who I loved the most.” Do you still feel that way? Do you have any recommendations for Republicans in the future who are targeted in the same way? Now that the Democratic strategy has been exposed, do Republicans have more of a duty to not yield to their smear campaigns?

My two boys mean everything to me. They are my entire world. The vicious attacks on me didn’t just hurt me, but they hurt my family. At the end of the day, it’s my responsibility to protect and care for my boys. I would have made the same decision every single time because being a father means more to me than anything else. Now we’re seen the RINO establishment come after me and I’m ready to take them on. They have continued to use my family as a political tool for their disgusting games. Now we have the truth on our side. We have proven their lies and smears don’t work and the people of Missouri see right through them.

After she was booed offstage at a Trump rally, Arizona lawmaker Michelle Ugenti-Rita claimed the Arizona election audit was “botched.” You traveled to Arizona to observe the audit there. Do you agree? What do you think are the chief lessons of the 2020 election and what should Republicans be doing right now to prevent a rerun in 2024?

We can’t move on to 2024 until we find out what happened in 2020. Republicans should have fought harder against universal mail in balloting. That led to the potential for widespread fraud and that gave Democrats a pathway to steal the election. We had a screening of David Bossie’s “Rigged” documentary last month, and the reception and the amount of people that came was astounding. Voters want to know that their vote counts, and when you have examples of Big Tech interference and ballot harvesting, it really calls into question what happened. We need safe and secure elections. 2020 was far from safe and secure. So we need to understand what happened before we can secure the 2024 election.

You’re a former Democrat. Missouri went from nearly voting for Obama in 2008 to voting Trump by more than 15 points in both 2016 and 2020. What parts of President Trump’s message appeal most to disaffected Democrats? What do you think the party should do in 2022 and 2024 to win over those worried about Critical Race Theory, radical gender ideology, riots, or never-ending Covid mandates?

The RINO establishment is launching their new attack on me by falsely tying me to Barack Obama and being at the Democrat National Convention in 2008. The primary reason I was in Denver wasn’t for political purposes, it was to raise money for wounded veterans. So if they want to criticize me for helping my brothers and sisters coming back home from war, then that says more about their character. At one time, Missouri was a very purple state. But we’ve seen time and time again that Democrats are the party of elites. They are the part of crime, misery, wokeness, CRT, and transgender nonsense. They don’t represent the everyday American who simply wants to provide a good life for themselves and their families. That’s why you’ve seen Missouri turn Trump red in 2016 and 2020.

Republicans had full control of Congress after 2016, but thanks to the Senate there was no big infrastructure push and no immigration reform, but a two-year-long distraction with the Russia hoax investigation. What do the GOP’s priorities need to be if they are given another chance with a Senate majority?

We had a great opportunity to pass all of this great legislation and even fund and build President Trump’s border wall. But we have some weak-kneed Republicans who refused to do anything except conspire with the enemy and cower in fear. That’s why 2022 is such an important election year. We’ll elect a new crop for true conservatives who will put the people first, instead of special interests. The next U.S. Senate will be completely different and will set the stage for when President Trump is back in the White House in 2024.
